I have a hard time opening up.
I choose to wear my heart on my sleeve.
When it comes to my [E] music, I'm very bare and naked.
And that's where I feel [G] like I connect with [D] people fastest.
If you [Bm] want to get to know me, [D] listen to my music.
If you're trying to get to know me on a personal level, it'll take some time.
[Em] I think why my music has a lot of melancholy in it is because of experience.
And [G] I'm drawn to it.
I find it [Am] beautiful.
I'm a very [Em] emotional person.
I cry easily.
[G] My music is [Am] reflecting my [Em] personality.
And it's very honest.
So [G] that's why it sounds the way it [Am] does.
Music that [Em] actually moved me, moved my soul, [G]
that made me want to [Am] become a singer,
[Em] was hearing voices [G] like [Am] Whitney Houston, [Em] Mariah Carey, Michael Jackson, [G] Stevie [Am] Wonder, Prince.
[D] All those greats.
[G] I was really [C] inspired by [G] artists with big [D] voices.
So [Em] that's how I started [C] singing.
And [G] then later on, I started [D]
listening more to [G] all types of genres.
And the writing [D] of Lauryn Hill really inspired me.
[C]
So that's [Bm] when I got into [Em] songwriting more and more.
[G] My musical journey [A] has been so long.
[Em] I've dealt with all types of situations.
From being [G] [Am] signed when I was 14 [Em] and having a really good relationship [G] with that label [Am] at the time.
[Em] They were developing me, making me just [G] be free.
[Am] That was [D] my activity after school.
I was always in the studio [C] writing.
But then I've been in [G] other situations [D] as well, where I've signed [C]
contracts without [G] legal advising.
[D] I've been [Em] stuck in bad [C] deals.
[G] People telling me what to do, what to [D] wear, how to sing, what to say in interviews.
[C] Just turning me into something [Em] I'm not.
So everyone gets shaped from [G] what they go through in life.
And [Am] it's hard to brush [E] off certain insecurities [G] of not maybe trusting [Am] people in the industry.
[B]
So it was really [E] important for me to find a team of people that I could finally trust.
And [Em] do what I want to do with.
[Am] People that could [D] see my true vision as an artist.
[Em] And I [C] finally found that.
[G] [Em]
There Will Be Sunshine is the title track [G] of my EP.
[Am]
I just [Em] thought it would suit to be the title.
Because it [G] just sums up the [Am] theme of the [Em] EP and also the album.
Which I would say [G] it's about the struggle [Am] of being strong.
[Em] Going through all these things and [G] my musical journey.
And There Will Be Sunshine [A] is probably one of [D] the most personal pieces [G] that I've written.
[C] It's about [G] coming to [D] peace with certain [Em] things that [C] happen to me in my [G] life.
That I will probably never [D] get the answers to.
You just have to [C] accept certain things.
[G] And be [D] positive and [Em] keep a [C] good spirit.
So that's what There Will Be Sunshine is about.
[B]
[Dbm] [Abm]
[Db] [Ab] I would [Abm]
[Ab] say my music is cinematic.
I [Db] was really inspired [Db] by [Ab]
listening to soundtracks to films growing up as well.
[Abm]
[Db]
[Abm] [Db] [Ab]
That's why I'm so into big choirs and string arrangements.
And [Abm] you hear a lot of pads [Ab] in my songs.
Because I grew up listening to that.
And I wanted to bring that [Abm] cinematic feel into my [Db] sound.
[Bbm] [B]
[Bbm] [B] [Gb]
[B] [Dbm]
I write [Abm] all my songs myself or co-write [Gb] my [E] songs usually.
But I didn't write [B] emotional.
But I heard the demo and I felt like I had to record it.
It just spoke to me and it was about something I was going through at that exact moment.
[Db] It's really important for me that I [Dbm] can stand for what I'm [Abm] singing.
If somebody else can help me say my story, [Eb] that's amazing.
I want to [Db] love him.
[Abm] But what if he hurts me?
[Db] So the riser from Wu-Tang produced Emotional.
[Abm] And he's another hip-hop legend.
Just as [Db] No I.D.
[Abm] I don't know how I got to work with all [Ab] these hip-hop legends.
But I feel really blessed.
They all also happen to [Abm] be very wise people.
[Db]
[Abm] I [Ab] got to work with amazing director Sarah Chatfield.
[Abm] And Paul Laufer as my director of photography.
And I [Ab] wanted to work with him for a long time.
So [Abm] it was just really amazing [Db] to just capture the [Gb] performance.
[B] We didn't think too much during that video.
Making the video, it was all about me just being free and performing and having [Dbm] fun with it.
[B] [Dbm] [Abm]
[Am] [A]
Certain music becomes the soundtrack to [Am] your life.
I [A] connect certain songs to certain [F] memories.
[Fm] I think we all do.
And I wish that some of my music can [A]
be somebody's [E] special moment in [Am] their life.
And that they can have a beautiful [A] memory alongside with my [Am] music.
[A] The greats that I'm around right now and that I've been blessed to have in [F] my team.
People I work with.
Legendary people.
They are sharing their gift with [Fm] me.
[B] And [A] they do it because they feel responsibility for the culture, for the music.
That's just very inspiring to me to know that I have a responsibility as well.
