_ _ _ _ _ Okay guys, welcome back to another video.
I've got a quick one for you today as always.
As you can tell by the title, we're going to be talking about some talk music and some
ideas I like to use.
So first off, let me just say when you're playing talk music, there's not really a specific
guideline you need to follow.
I think the main thing is really just making sure ideas connect, making sure melodies connect,
making sure chords connect.
And if you have a basic understanding in any key, whether it's the key of C or the key
of E, _ you can play talk music without even thinking about it.
So _ I did a video on talk music beforehand.
It was just some basic movement, but we're going to get a little bit of advance here.
But just to cover the basic movement, _ so this was pretty much the basic movement.
So _ what I taught was [G] going down the [F] scale, but make sure you really tackle those inversions
like this right [D] here.
_ [G] I got a G major chord over B, five over _ seven, [F] _ four chord over the six, _ [Em] _
_ this type chord right
here, _ _ one chord [C] over the five.
_ _ [F] _ _ _
_ _ _ Almost diatonically inside the key of C, whatever you choose, whether it's an inversion or not,
it's going to sound good.
_ [Dm] _
_ _ [F] _ Even like a nice little tritone action.
_ [G] _ _ _ _ [Am] _ _ _
[B] _ _ But then I did a little 7-3-6, you can always add those in.
_ _ _ [Em] Then I went to the [E] right, the major two, _ first inversion.
[D]
I also talked about in the first video, it's also important to know your inversions.
_ _ _ [Fm] So _ _
_ [E] _ these are just typical, your gospel type moves [G] in the key of C, if you're setting up
a song or you just [Db] talk music, [E] _ [Db] just whatever.
[C] _
_ [A] _ _ _ _ _ So that's kind of it, but let's get a little bit of advance.
So this is something that I absolutely love to do.
I like to start at my root chord, _ C. _
So I like to start at my root chord and I like
to move chromatically down, harmonizing every single bass note I can.
So to give you an example, something like this.
_ _ _ _ [G] _
_ _ [C] _ _ _ [F] _ _ _
_ _ [C] _ _ [E] _ _ _ _
_ [Fm] _ _ [Bb] _ _ [C] _ _ _
_ _ [Dm] _ _ [Em] _ _ [F] _ _
_ _ [D] _ _ _ [Eb] _ _ [Em] _
_ [F] _ _ _ _ _ _ [Gm] _
_ _ _ [Em] _ _ _ _ _
[E] _ _ [C] _ _ _ _ [D] _ _
[Bb] _ _ _ [Eb] _ _ [F] _ _ _
_ _ [Cm] _ _ [C] Okay, so now you guys are using it in the key of E flat.
_ But check out that first idea I was [Bm] doing there, right?
_ [F] _ _ _ _ _ _
_ [Em] _ [C] So let's check out that move and let's check out my thought process.
_ Starting at C, _ [G] _
I'm going to this type of chord here, my _ five chord with the seven in the bass.
[C] And then [Em] I'll do something like this.
This is a [Bb] one chord, but I have the flat seven, right?
So this is a C seven, [Cm] _ _ _ right?
Or I can do like a major.
It really depends on what you're feeling, right?
Depends on the atmosphere.
[C] _ _
So I have, [G] _ _ and I have [C] this, _ and I have this, right?
The C seven always leads to that four [F] chord most times.
And then I like to make [F] do like a minor four chord, _ [Fm]
right?
With the _ _ _ three in the bass, right?
_ The minor third and the bass.
So something like [Dm] that.
And I love to kind [Gm] of trickle off, right?
[Fm] So this is [C] my regular minor four chord right here.
And then I love to trickle off, right?
[Gm] Do like a minor five and a minor four.
Those fit [D] nice.
_ _ _ And then I'll do something like that.
But first [F] let's go back.
_ _ [Em] So I'll do something like that.
[D] And then I'll go down to that two chord, right?
So then I can kind of [Gbm] play in [B] the two, _ _
[D] _ right? _ _ _ _
So now I'm kind of just playing off the two chord.
I'm hitting some stuff that I know will go nice
with the D [E] major, right?
All right, so like this E [D] minor to D, right?
Cause [Em] E minor [E] is like right here, _ _ [D] _ [Fm] right?
And then I feel like that [D] leads nice
to another minor two chord, right?
But first inversion, [Gm] the root on the [Fm] bass.
[Bb] Then I might do something like this,
take it up a fourth, _ [C] _ _
something like that.
[Ebm] And then, you know, you might could [Dm] diminish _ [E] D minor,
your five, and then [Em] you can go back
and you can start doing some other [F] stuff like this,
_ [F] _
_ some [C] more pretty [Dm] stuff, _ or you can start, [F] _ _ _ _ _ [Em] _
_ [E] _ _ [E] _ _ _ right?
Every chord [Bb] that I just showed you
is a nice pivot to go somewhere else.
So this [Cm] chord, _ it's a nice pivot to maybe tackle [Am] the six.
_ _ _ _ [E] _ _ _ [Em] _
_ _ [D] _ _ This D major chord, this two is a nice pivot
to really go into the six as well, right?
Cause I could do something like this.
_ _ [Am] _ So I could do something like that,
[E] or I could [Fm] do something like [D] that.
_ _ _ [E] _ _ _
[G] So something like that, I could [Em] do _ [D] something like this.
_ I feel like talk music,
we don't have to make it super, super complicated
what we're doing, right?
_ _ [Cm] _ _ _ [F] _ _
The [C] thing is, is just whatever key you [Ab] do it in,
_ _ [Gb] _
_ [Fm] _ _ _ [Ebm] you're just really gonna [Db] wanna understand the ends
and [Db] out of that key.
That's why it's very important for you
to know all these [B] triads.
_ [C] _ It's important for you to know those
and to know what's inversions, right?
[F] _ _ [G] Right?
So [C] it's really important for you to know your triads
and all your inversions and everything.
_ _ _ [Em] But I [G] feel like if you don't want your basic
[D] talk music chords, _ _
_ [Bb] _ _ _ [E] _ they can throw stuff in there like that.
[G] _ _ [Dm] _ _ [G] _ _
_ [E] _ And then, you know, tritone subs can come into place.
[Bbm] _ _ _ _ [Dm] _ _ _
[Gm] _ _ [D] _ _ [C] _ _ _
I really love to play off of five chord a lot.
_ [Em] _ _ _
_ [G] _ _ _ _ You know, that's the thing about talk music.
Talk music, you're not playing a song.
So whatever you play, it's just whatever you play.
And [Db] the thing is, you just really wanna make a connect.
And I think that's the idea with talk music.
But that's all I got for you guys today, man.
Just thought I'd share some ideas on talk music.
But if you have any questions or anything
or any other video ideas, please let me know.
If you wanna see this in another key,
make sure you follow me on TikTok and Instagram
because I like to make little [Gb] shorter videos
if it's based off of a [Db] _
_ [Gbm] _ _ video [Bbm] like this.
[Ebm] _
_ _ [E] _ _ But goodbye, [Ab] guys.
