[Fm] Hey guys Jermaine Morgan here and today I'm going to show you how to add a little bit more soul
to your pentatonic so stay tuned.

All right for today's lesson we're in the key of E, E minor you know the bass player's favorite key
to groove in all those open notes all those open ideas.
So with this particular idea I know you
guys heard me play quite a few riffs there but the one I'm going to focus on in particular is
kind of what we're playing this open idea [Am]
we're playing [Db] around with this E minor [A] pentatonic sound
now the thing that we're doing to make it sound a little bit more
soulful is adding that little grace note to it
and then adding a little bend at the end and bending that last note that G to give us a really
a little bit [Em] more of a soulful sound you know once you put it all together you
[N]
[Em]
know so once we put it
all together you get just a little bit more aggression out of it and [N]
you can dig into that G
if you really want to you know so we're just doing some things that give us a little bit
more aggression as opposed to just approaching the pentatonic that's another way that we can
approach it using it actually you can think of it as G major pentatonic and that's basically what
I'm building this off of and you know you guys know they're interchangeable that E minor pentatonic
and G major pentatonic is almost basically the same thing [E] we're just landing on that [A] E minor
[Bb] [B] so instead of going here we're going half step
and [A]
we're skipping a few notes so slowing it down [Bb] okay [A] [G] [E] [A]
so again
[Bb] [A] [G]
[E] [A]
and that's pretty much as simple as the whole lick is so you can take that idea and make an
exercise out of it if you want to so you can slow it down so the grace note almost happens as a triplet
[N] triple
so that's the timing of it
and a lot of times changing the rhythm up on a lot of these things is also what gives you a
slightly different feel even though you're playing the same notes as a scale even if you did it as a
full just changing the rhythm up with that triplet you can play them out with all the notes being
fingered or you can actually do a [A] hammer-on like I'm doing
but for this example I'm going half step [N] and I'm not playing them all out personally
I'm doing one of them as a hammer-on
okay
so it just adds a little bit more soul to it of course you think about it like a blues player or
a soulful guitar player something like that when you hear that type of line so
guys that's pretty much the gist of this whole entire line I'm not going to drag this lesson out
hope this has helped you please leave in the comments below if you got it just say I got it
