[Dm] [Eb] It's the little [C] song about a girl that went global.
[F] [Bb] While Mad's his age of bumbling, swiping and hinging, Stephen [Dm] Sanchez has been winning
hearts and climbing charts with this 1950s inspired [Bb] love song.
[Eb] [F] [Bb] [Dm]
[Eb] [B] Until I Found You was a worldwide [Eb] smash and for the 20 year old from Nashville, only the beginning.
[Ab] [Bb]
[Eb] [Cm] Stephen's new [Ab] single Evangeline is another [Cm] era transcending tune with [Ab] its classic 60s
sound and of [Bb] course his signature modern day romance.
[Eb]
[Fm] Please welcome [Gm] Stephen Sanchez.
[N] Alright.
Hey hey.
Great to have you here Stephen.
You are smashing it at the moment.
Your songs are everywhere.
You're playing sold out shows in the US.
You've just announced an Australian tour as well.
Yeah.
You having fun?
I'm having a lot of fun.
It's a good time.
I can't, I can honestly hardly believe that we're here in Melbourne just hanging out and doing this.
It's amazing.
That song Until I Found You intrigues me because of your age.
Yeah.
I mean how do you write and perform a song like that that takes old blokes like me back
to the 60s and Elvis and [Dm] people like that?
I think it's kind of
Where does it come from?
[Bb] It's a bit of a happy accident really I think.
You know I mean [F] truthfully I was just in love with a girl [Eb] and wanted to write a [F] song about
that and it kind of just [Bb] came out the way that [Dm] and [Eb] came out in the sound the way that
I [F] grew up you know which was [Bb] just around 50s and 60s music and so [Ebm] I think just falling
in love with the first time and then you know falling in love with music from that
time it kind [Ab] of just fell into place very naturally it feels like.
Are you happy with those comparisons when people talk about you know Elvis and Buddy
Holly and stuff like that? Oh yeah.
Are you happy to be compared to Elvis?
I mean come on.
Some people might take objection and say it's about me.
Oh no I mean honestly I think it's a real honour to be put next to anybody like that
because it's you know any sort of hero that you grow up with if you can get put next to
them and try and fit in their shoes in any way it's really a special thing I think so
yeah I have no problem with it.
You do just have like a very old timey vibe to you like right now I feel like you could
have been transported from the 50s or something like do you have a time for that?
Do I look like I'm 80?
Really good 80.
I think it's like infectious.
When I first heard your music on the radio it was like an old school experience.
I heard it on the radio which is already an old school thing and then I couldn't know
the name so I like had to ask friends like that's how I discovered your music instead
of like streaming or a website.
Man thank you.
Yeah I'm just saying it's like it feels like it's quite infectious the energy and the era
of your music.
Thank you for that I appreciate it.
Yeah that wasn't a question you're right it was just a compliment.
You know you've got to tell people when you respect them.
No I agree it was lovely of you to do and it was well taken.
That song was about your girlfriend at the time Georgia.
I mean most people just buy a bunch of flowers or something.
Yeah that's true.
They don't write a worldwide smash hit.
I mean how did she respond to all that?
I mean honestly when we were dating we weren't thinking about any of that at all you know
I was just like I mean nothing was really going on with my career at all truthfully
I mean we just released or we were getting ready to release a record actually and then
that song came to be [Bb] out of nowhere you know we were dating and I was just you know in
love and wanting to share that in a way that didn't come in the form of flowers or you
know verbal flattery you know and so I think just [Dm] yeah it's really crazy that [Bb] it just kind
of I mean we ended up releasing that song first before the project that we spent a year
working [Dm] on and [Eb] yeah I just can't believe what it did it actually did nothing at the start
and now it's [N] done everything.
She get royalties?
Huh?
Does she get royalties?
That's a no.
That's a no.
So I'm thinking she's very X'd now.
Man she probably deserves some royalties just because she has to see my face all the time
it feels like so but no we're great honestly and you know she's an amazing person whom
I care very much for and you know I wish nothing but the best for her and like it stands true
I mean the song although it's different now it's become kind of for everybody else you
know the heart of that you know with her singing on the actual track that's being played
all over the world you know it's still very special and she's still very special and so
there's no hard feelings or anything just because it didn't work out.
Yeah I bet you don't have any hard feelings buddy.
Yeah I don't have any, yeah I'm good.
Speaking of special you're pretty special Stephen in fact we've heard one of your biggest
fans is Sir Elton John.
I love him.
How did you find that out?
He, yeah it's the most insane story actually he called me when I was at a radio station
in Denver in the States and we were at iHeartRadio and we were about to play on the radio after
playing a festival actually or some radio event or something like that we were playing
a show and my publisher had called me two weeks prior to all of this and he was like
hey Elton John is gonna he's gonna call you and I was like that's a great joke like fantastic
and so I ignored it because I totally thought he was just ripping on me and uh and then
he did he called me and he was just like it was a synonymous number from Atlanta Georgia
and I pick up the phone and I'm just like this is really weird I'm like hello and he's
like Stephen it's Elton.
That's a horrible impression but he talked to me and he was comparing me to the likes
of Chris Isaac and Roy Orbison and all these different artists that I grew up listening
to and uh just saying how he was so excited to to be a part of my career and just supporting
it you know like not like it's just it's amazing it's a really special thing.
Sounds like he wants to do a collab mate that's what it sounds like.
I would love that.
If Skinfiddich mean Stephen's new single Evangeline is out now and don't miss him live on his
