[D] [G] Welcome back.
It's musicians on
the [A] record with David Ward at
the [D] 2018 [G] NAMM show and how cool
is this?
Now, this is really
getting fun.
Guitar legend,
Steve Morse of Deep Purple and
the [Dm] Dixie Dregs.
Welcome,
[E] Steve.
So great to see you.
Thank you.
Great to [G] have.
Absolutely.
Um I have heard a
rumor that the Dixie Dregs are
going back out on the [A] road this
year.
[G] Please tell us more.
It's a lot [Am] bigger than a rumor.
[G] We're playing so many gigs in
[C] this two-month [G] span.
Starting
in Florida, going on, working
our way up to New York, [D] over
to Chicago.
[Em] [A] More Midwest and
then [G] Boulder over to California,
down to Phoenix, Atlanta again.
[A] It's amazing.
How [G] did it happen
that you guys [C] got back together?
[G] It's been a while, right?
It started with Andy West and
Rod Morgenstein [C] [B] and [G] Frank
Solomon, our old manager,
getting together and talking
about it and finding that Steve
Davidowski, our original
[Abm] keyboard player [Am] from the Free
Fall album, [G] was available and
wanted to do [Am] it.
And we knew
Alan Sloan was.
So, [Gm]
[C] what it
amounts to, it's the entire
original band from our [G] first
studio recording.
Amazing.
[B] That's amazing.
Now, [Em] I had the
[B] pleasure of interviewing [Gm] your
other [G] bandmate, Rod Morgenstein
on my show.
And the [C] story he
told of you guys being
[G] discovered, your big break by
Chuck Lavelle in a bar that [C] you
were playing, what was [Em] that
like for you to have that all happen?
Well, it wasn't [C] just a bar.
It
was the [G] exit in.
It was a very,
very well-traveled performance
club, almost like a dinner
theater kind of thing in
Nashville.
So, [A] [G] everybody going
down that [Am] way [G] that could [Em] play
at the exit in.
And when we
[C] finally got a gig [G] there, just so
happened the Allman brothers
were coming [C] back from a tour and
they stopped [Am] in Nashville for
the night and came to [G] the show.
[A] Synchronicity, it [G] happens,
right?
Did you get to jam with
them and Greg Allman?
Yeah, way down the road.
Way
down the road.
But, yeah, we
did.
Because of Twigs.
[N] Twigs was
one of their [G] key road guys.
And
he ended up giving us the
opportunity to know the guys in
the Allman brothers [D] because he
was [Gm] in the inner circle [G] being
one of the old [Ab] original [E] crew guys.
[B] Absolutely.
And so when [G] do you
guys hit the road with the Dixie [A] Drex?
[D] At the end of February, we're starting.
So that's [A] coming right up.
And
as well as I have to be remiss
if I didn't ask you, [D] Ian Pace [A] is
one of my favorite [Bb] drummers.
So
what's [A] happening with Purple in 2018?
[E] [A] Well, the [G] mission is still [F] the
same.
The band [Am]
[D] is going to be
out on the road playing [Em] as hard
as [G] possible.
I think that the
management and the booking
agency want to see the [Dm] band die
on stage.
[Bm] And I think the band
wants to [E] see it.
[Ab] No.
[Cm] They're going to keep [Am] going
until they're just like five [G] coffins.
Right.
But it'll still be good [D] music as
well.
So that's what counts.
It's awesome.
And [G] Steve, what's up?
Steve Morris, thank you so much
for your time.
I really
appreciate it.
