[C] [Em]
[G] [D] [G]
[Bm] [C]
[Em] [G] I hear the [D] clock, [G] it's 6am, [C] it feels so far [E] from where I've been.
[Em] [G] I got [Bm] my eggs, I got my pancakes too, I [C] got my maple syrup, [Am] [D] everything but you.
[C] I [Bm] break the yolks and make a smiley face, [C]
I kinda like it in [E] my brand new [Em] place.
I [C] wipe the spots off of the [Bm] mirror, don't leave the keys in a door.
[C] I never put wet towels [D] on the floor anymore.
[C] Cause dreams last for [D] so long, even after [Em] you've gone.
[C] And I know [D] that you love me, [G] and soon I know you [Em] will see.
You were [C] meant for me, [D] and I was meant for [Em] you.
I [Bm]
[G] called [Bm] my mom but she was out for a walk, I [C] sold a cup of coffee [Em] but it didn't want to talk.
[G] I picked [Bm] up the paper, it was more bad news, [C] more hearts being broken, [D] more people being you.
[A] [D] I put on my coat [G] in the pouring [Bm] rain, [C] I saw a movie [Em] but it wasn't the same.
[C] It [G] was happy, I said [C] yeah, it made me miss [G] you, [D] oh so.
[C] Cause dreams last for [D] so long, even after [Em] you've gone.
[C] And I know [D] that you love me, and soon I know you [Em] will see.
You [C] were meant for me, [D] and I was meant for [Em] you.
I [Am]
go about my business [D] and I'm doing fine, [Bm] besides what would you say [D] if I had [C] you on the line.
[Am] Same old story [D] now, much to say, [Bm] hearts are broken [E] every day.
Oh yeah.
[G] So ladies and gentlemen of the tiki here in [C] Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
[Em] After this song was [G] written and went up to number one on [Bm] the charts, all kinds of weird stuff started [C] happening to me.
Not to mention [Em] big checks started rolling [G] in, sent [D] my niece and nephew to hip hop [Bm] dance class.
[C]
Bought gold [Em] plated Converse All Star [G] shoes, [D] left them in a hotel [G] room.
[D]
[C] Just foolishly spent my money at the [Em] dog track.
[D] [Bm] The checks just kept coming in.
[C] Who was I to say no?
[Em]
[G] I bought [Bm] Halifax.
[C] [Em]
I'm gonna [G] rule this place with an iron [D] fist.
[G] [C] So then, you know a song sometimes [Em] gets a second life.
And this last year, [D] man it was crazy [Bm] because my phone started [G] ringing about six o'clock in the evening.
Which meant [C] a lot of my east coast friends were calling me.
[Em] And the messages all went like this.
Dude, [G] you gotta watch The [D] Office tonight.
[G] There's this show called The Office and it [C] stars Steve Carell who's a 40 year old virgin and [Em] everything.
The Office is based on this English show The [G] Office.
And [D] it's a really funny [Bm] show.
So apparently there [D] was a couple getting married [C] in The Office.
And they were getting [Em] married and they had a police [G] band play, a police cover band.
And The Office takes place in Scranton, [B] Pennsylvania.
[C] And this police cover band only played police [Em] songs at the wedding and they were called [G] Scrantonicity.
[C] So Pam and Roy who like [Em] each other on the show The Office, their song is You Were [G] Meant For Me.
And they [D] didn't want to hear any more [G] police songs.
They wanted to slow dance to You Were Meant For Me.
And [C] I couldn't believe it.
So they go [Em] up and they tip the wedding band a bunch of money to play [G] You Were Meant For Me.
So the wedding [D] band goes, yeah I [G] think we know it.
And I'm freaking out because right?
[C] This song was made up on the drug bus down in [Em] Mexico.
So they start singing the song.
[G] And they're doing a pretty damn good [Bm] version of it.
Well Steve Carell's character gets kicked out of the wedding [C] because he keeps hogging all the cameras and [Em] trying to talk into it.
So he's sitting outside in the [D] pose of a thinker all [G] despondent and whatnot.
And when he gets to the part of the [Bm] song that goes like that, I'm [D] going oh my God I wonder if the band's going to do it.
Because [Bm] when we recorded the song at Neil Young's [C] ranch, Ben Keith, he produced the record.
[Em] He played with Patsy Cline, [G] you know, and he plays in the Stray Gators.
And [E] I was kind of scared to go [B] because I thought he was going to think it was really lame [Ab] and wimpy.
So when it came to the part to do that I went.
And he goes, what was that?
And I go, what?
And he goes, that harmonic thing you did.
And I go, oh nothing.
And he goes, no I liked it.
Could you do it again?
I go, you liked it?
And he goes, yeah.
And he said, do it louder.
So I go.
[G] So when it came time for the wedding [D] band to do that and the [G] thing, Steve Carell's sitting outside and the [C] wedding band does it.
And Steve [G] Carell goes, boo boo boo boo boo.
And I go, no way, right?
[Bm] I just influenced [C] television.
Had I never gone boo [Em] boo boo boo, after the break, [D] he never would have [G] gone boo boo boo boo.
I'm trying to tell [C] my friends and nobody cares.
But the real important [Em] thing is if your song's played for more than 17 [D] seconds, you make a lot more [Bm] money.
And at the same time, I'm looking at my stopwatch, it was 23 [C] seconds.
[Em]
Well, that's not all.
