Steve Vai - A Peek into Modern Primitive chords

On the way from flexible to Passion and [Db] Warfare, there was this [Ab] metamorphosis that was happening
in various other projects.
[D] Pill, Crossroads, Dave Roth, all this stuff.
But I was continuing to write music.
So a lot of the songs that I wrote, there's a handful that didn't make it to Passion and Warfare.
And I always thought one day it would be really [Eb] nice to take a lot of that music that I already
[Gm] have tracked and also [D] some music that I wrote in between that period [Fm] and make a record
so people could see where [Abm] that missing [Bm] link is in the Steve [Abm] Vai chain.
I'm [Ebm] [E]
[Abm] [E]
[Bb] recording Mighty [E] Messengers, the rhythm guitar part.
This was a part that I [Abm] wrote when [E] I was a [Gb] teenager.
And this was the guitar.
This was [B] the first real guitar [Gb] that I ever got.
[Abm] This guitar was with me in [Gb] my high school bands, Berklee.
And [Abm] this was basically the guitar I used most [Gb] of the time through the Frank [A] years.
I loved this guitar.
And now [E] I'm doing this song Mighty Messengers, which was this riff.
[Abm] [E]
[Abm] I
[E] have recordings of me doing it with the Classifier.
And I found some of these recordings and I remembered this song and I decided to resurrect it.
It's interesting to play a song like this and listen to it from the old days and how
my style [G] was, what my idea for [Db] lyrics were, how I [Gb] sang, how I [Abm] played.
So it's actually a new [B] recording [Gb] of a [Abm] song that was performed [Gb] back in those days.
[Abm]
[Dbm] [Eb] [C]
[E]
[G]
[Em]
Whenever I'm writing a record or [Am] doing [G] something, I have so much material I just can't do.
I'll pick songs [Em] based on other songs that are on the record.
[A]
[Em] I know I have to finish this one [Bm] because it's [A] been too [D] long.
[A] It was always on the shelf.
It was always saying, one day [G] you're going to finish.
[Db]
[A] Why do I have to make such hard [D] parts?
[G] [D]
I'm working on [G] a song for Modern Primitive called And We Are One.
Started out with this riff, simple little [C] condo.
[G] [Am]
[E] [C] [D] [C]
[G] [F] [B] [G]
[D] [C]
[G]
[Am] Woo!
[F] It's kind of a riff I had kicking around for quite some time and I added vocals.
And now I'm working on the solo.
What I like to do [Am] is to [G] continue to explore new [C] phrasings and new melodies [F] and new techniques.
I came [C] across this riff with the volume pedal and the slides and with the wah-wah at the
[Dm] same time.
So you have to be sitting down.
[C] I had never done that before and it created an [G] interesting effect.
Within it, I was [C] developing something [F] that I couldn't do before.
[E] And now I have the [D] idea for it and I'll work on it until something musical comes out.
[E] [D]
[E] [C] I'm using the orange amp.
You get a little bit of a different sound.
Plus [Am]
that little [Em] box.
[C]
[Eb]
Trying to find a melody is like fishing because you never know what the pedal is going to do.
[G] It's fun.
[C]
[F] [Cm]
[Db]
[Am]
[G] There's a missing link between the guy that made Flexible and the guy [C] that made Passion and Warfare.
[A] [D] Now it's happening.
You know, it's [B] the absolute proof [Db] of [N] you create your own reality.
I always wanted it to happen and [Eb] now it's happening.
