Start Jamming...
So in probably in 1978, 79, I started thinking, I want to do a solo record.
I have way too many songs in the box of [D] gothic, lost songs, and I need to [C] do this.
So [G] I gathered Superband together and I said, [F#] listen, I swear [F] to you, I am not going to ever break up the band.
[B] I just need another vehicle.
You guys [G#] go to Hawaii, [C#] you go on vacation, [C] and I'll go and make this record.
It's not [Cm] going to get in your way.
[N] And I think I convinced them because here I am standing here today
and I just feel so emotional.
So anyway, so I was just pumped.
But anyway, [C#] so then I got [F#] in a plane, [D#] I flew to New York, and I went [Dm] to Atlantic Records where I wanted to [N] be.
And I met with the president and I said, so I guess [D] there's no possible way I [C] could join Tom Brady and the Heartbreakers, [E] right?
He goes, no.
That's not going to happen.
[D#] I said, well, what about who produces [D] them?
Who produces them?
And he said, Jimmy Iovine.
And I said, well, can [F] I get Jimmy Iovine to produce [D] this record?
We'll just like make the girl [N] Tom Brady record.
And he goes, I'll set you guys up and you can talk it out.
So I met Jimmy, I told him what [D] I wanted to do, and he said, okay, we'll do it.
So we went back to Los Angeles.
We made an amazing record.
We were very focused.
I was very organized, very unlike myself, but I was very organized, very on point.
So we went in, we went in, we made the [E] record in three months, which in most days is like [N] that was nothing.
There's a very short amount of time, but I was in a hurry because of that promise.
So anyway, at the end of the record, Jimmy comes to me and says, and now Jimmy is my boyfriend.
So things moved very [D] fast in those days.
[F] So Jimmy says to me, [F#] Stevie, we have a problem.
And I'm like, [Dm] what?
And he said, you don't have a single [B] on this record.
And I'm like, [G] what is a single?
What is a single?
[D#] And he said, well, whatever [D] it is, you don't have it on this record.
And we have to get [D#] you a single because if you don't have a hit single [E] coming off of this record, coming out of the [N] big band,
your record can tank.
And then guess what?
You won't have a solo career.
[F#] So I said, okay, so what do we do?
And he said, well, you know [Dm] that guy there's so crazy about, Tom [E] Heddy?
And I said, yes.
And he said, well, he has a song.
And it's already recorded, and he's [D] willing to give you the song [A#] and sing it with you.
[C#] And it is a single.
[B] So I said, okay.
That song became [N] Stop Dragging My Heart.
And it kicked over right into status quo.
So we're about to do it for you now.
Stop Dragging My Heart.

[E] And I believe the things you [G#] can't believe [C#m] in.
It's [E] not time for me to do anything [F#] at all.
[E] Do you really want to tell me to [F#] reply?
[E] Do you really want to leave me [F#] blind?
[A] Maybe you could be [B] with me and get out of [A] my way.

[C#m] You need [E] someone to look [F#] at you.
[C#m] Do you [E] really want to tell me [F#] to reply?
[C#m]
[E] [F#] [A] Maybe you could [B] be with me and get out [A] of my way.
