Hey there, my name is Daniel Renstrom and I'm going to show you how to play the song
How Does the Father Love His Children.
I wrote this song really early in the process of writing this CD, probably started about
three years ago, and it was a hard one to finish for a lot of reasons.
One of them was just it was really difficult to make sure that I was carefully saying all the words.
The bridge didn't come for a long time.
It's a really, really simple song, so you might hear it and think, why did it take you so long?
The basic idea is I wanted to explain all of the ways that God does love his children,
or did love his children, does love his children, and will love his children.
You probably hear that progression happening in the song.
It's just a good, you know, it's biblical theology without explaining a lot of really complicated categories.
He loved us by giving us his one and only son.
He does love us now by giving the spirit as our guide, and he will love us by bringing
us safely to his side.
Those are just rich categories for little kids, for parents to understand and kind of meditate on.
I'm going to play it for you and then just talk through a couple of the chords.
How did the father love his children?
In D, how did the [Bm] father love his children?
[C#m] How does the [A] father love his children?
And I'm going to like a G over B there.
How did the [C#] father love his children?
[G] He [C#] gave, so it starts on the A there in the chorus.
He [E] gave [G#] his one, D over F sharp, and [A] only son, to [Am] the G, and then does that again.
And then the bridge [F#] starts on the G there.
[A] And we sing [B] to praise your [A] name for the love you've [E] poured out upon [F#] us.
Every blessing that [E] we've received, [Am] it's a gift of [E] your loving kindness.
It's a gift of your [F#] loving kindness.
So again, [C#] really easy chords, and I don't think you should have a problem with it.
Oh, by the way, I've got capo two here, [F] so all of those chords were relative to the capo,
so I'm actually in the key of E, but I would just play it
