Great workout for your right hand on the strumming on this one today
I'm going to show you how to play straight and narrow by Sam Barber
I got plenty of requests for this one capo on the fourth fret.
Let's get it learned chord positions
We'll play with the capo on the fourth fret our e minor 7
_ _ C [E] add 9 and
_ [B] _ G _ _
[Abm] And that's going to be our chord progression throughout the song so first
I'm going to play through the intro just the easy way, and then I'll get into the picking the _ _ [E] _ _ _
_ [B] _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [Abm] strumming pattern
I'm doing is down down up down down down up down down down down _ _ _
_ _ [E] Down down up down down down up down down [B] down
_ _ _ _ Then [Abm] right here.
We're going to go to the C add [E] 9 down [B] down up and then back to our normal pattern _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ So here's [Abm] that one more time
We _ _
_ [E] _ _ _ _ [B] _ _ _
_ _ [E] _ [B] _ _ _ _ _
[Abm] _ could do a hammer on on the fourth string so [Bm] open
Hammer on to the second fret [B] and then come back off.
We can do that when we're playing the [Gb] C add 9 _ _
_ _ [B] _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ So for the [Bb] intro we do that progression once and then the next time we can do a hammer on the fifth string open the
second fret [Eb] for the e minor [Abm] 7 _
Then go to our [E] C add 9 [Gb] and do these hammer ons and this [E] slide so we go to the C add 9
And then we go fourth [Gb] string open
_ Then hammer on to the second [Ab] fret
Then [B] play the third string open and
then we'll come to the fifth fret on the fourth string pick that and then slide down to the second fret and
then pull [Gb] off to open up that fourth string and
[Gb] _ _ [B] Then go into our G _
[Ab] So here's that one more time
[Abm] _ _ _ [Gb] _ _ _
_ [B] _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ That's some extra stuff
You can add in there if you want to and also when you go from the G to the e minor 7 you can just walk
Down picking the sixth string third fret then second [Bb] fret then going [Abm] into the e minor and then into the first verse
So here's the first verse
[Abm] _ _ _ _ [E] _ _ _ [B] _
_ _ _ _ [Abm] Gotta thank God [E] you're still [B] growing old _ _ _ _
[Abm] It's the [E] means you're fine
And won't go [B] away _ _ _ _ [Abm] drop on [E] your knees
_ _ [B] Pray _ _ _
[Abm] Life can [E] get hard sometimes [B] I know _
_ _ [Abm] You gotta get up [E] and walk the straight and [B] narrow
_ _ _ _ We end our [Abm] verse there, and then we just strum down on the e minor 7 to start the chorus
When they're chasing you [E] down with an old [B] bloodhound and you're running through fields for your life
[Bb] [Abm] You gotta get [Gb] up son.
I know the gunning for [B] you
_ _ _ _ After the course we play through the intro [Abm] chords again, and [E] _ _ _
[B] _ _ _ _ _ [Abm] _ _ _
[E] _ _ [B] _ _ _ _ _
then we go [Abm] into the next verse
_ _ [E] _ Yesterday
[B] _ _ _ _ _ _ [Abm] crowd out
[E] Visions of today _ _ _
_ _ [Abm] Let your [E] past define [B] your name
_ _ _ [Abm] We will all be judged the same [B] someday _ _ _ _
[Abm] Life can [E] get hard sometimes [B] I know _
_ _ _ [Abm] Gotta get up
[Gb] Straight [B] and narrow
_ _ _ [Abm] When they're chasing you down with an old bloodhound
[B] We play through the chorus two more times, and we [Abm] are done
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
