[Am] [A] What [Bm] is the Hot Rod guitar?
[Am] Well,
[Bm] the Hot Rod guitar is [E]
basically a stripped down version of my signature guitar.
And my idea was to take out the tone knobs, which I never use, and you get more direct wiring that way, straight to the pickups.
We've updated quite a few things on the new Hot Rod.
I mean, the main thing is the pickups.
And TV Jones, unbeknownst to me, was slipping in new pickups during the shows that we were doing.
But eventually I said, you know, that guitar, that one Hot Rod you gave me just sounds unbelievable.
Because, well, I've been sneaking in these pickups.
And what he did was, he just, you know, he's the mad genius behind it.
I think he kind of mismatched some of the coils, and he did his magic.
So we've got new pickups there that sound, they sound like the TV classics.
Those are great pickups.
But to me, they have a little more clarity for finger picking.
And then when you really get on them, they kind of break up a little more.
[Am] That's what I'm hearing in these pickups.
[A]
We made the body thicker, which is more like my original 6120.
I think you might get a little more depth, you know, a little more tone out of that.
We've also, I thought, and I don't think any guitar maker has done [B] this.
My idea was to take some 1950s car colors.
But unlike a car, with wood we can make them translucent.
So I thought it would be cool.
I mean, no one's ever done the front and the back the same color.
And then I thought, do the rims, the sides, a lighter, contrasting color.
So like Harbor Blue, but see-through, so you can see the beautiful wood grain.
And then a Frost Blue on the side.
And I think we did those in like five or six different colors.
Also, Schaller, I really like those knurled Schaller locking tuners.
They have that kind of hot rod feel to them with that knurled machine look, you know.
And that was the main changes we did on the hot rod model this [Em] year.
