[G] [E] [A]
[Am] Hey, what's going on?
Joe Coffey here for [C] PremierGuitar.com. We're at SummerNAMM 2010
in Nashville, Tennessee.
[G] We're checking out new stuff from Cordoba Guitars.
I've got Dave
Hager with me here.
Dave, how are you, sir?
[B] Very good, thank you.
Hey, tell me about this
guitar you're [Em] holding here.
Well, this is new for 2010.
We've [D] had the 12 orchestra [B] model
in our line, but [A] previously it had a laminated back and sides.
This version [E] is called the
Sitka Spro, [A] which incorporates solid wood, [G] solid East Indian rosewood back and sides,
[B] mahogany [E] binding.
[Em] This particular model has a Sitka Spruce top, and [D] it's also available
in cedar.
[E]
You know, the whole nylon thing is just, am I right to say it's [Em] exploding?
I mean, a lot of [E] artists are going to it, [Em] using it for the tones, the textures.
It's
not just [A] an orchestra instrument.
[B] It's not just, well, let me go, guys.
I'm seeing it
in a lot of [E] different places these days.
That's what we're feeling as well, and that's what
we're seeing [G] popularity [D] in the instruments growing.
[Gb] And the one thing that [D] we see is
that [B] nylon string guitars have been an important part of music making since the inception of
the guitar.
[Am] And all the greatest bands, Pink Floyd, [B] Led Zeppelin, Metallica, even Segovia,
the Gypsy Kings now, everybody's been using a nylon string guitar [C] in some form in their
songwriting and playing.
[Am] So whether it's a reawakening or an awakening of most [G] musicians
to say, hey, this is another guitar I can add to my palette of [E] instruments that's going
to give me a [A] different sound, different tone, different feel, and help me to just be a better
songwriter.
Maybe that's happening out there and more people are gravitating to a nylon
string guitar because steel string and electric guitars have been so popular [D] over the past
few years that maybe [Eb] this is a nice change of pace for [A] many people.
Well, and I like the way you guys are going [F] about it.
No knock on the straight up hardcore
[A] orchestra style, but I mean, this thing is sexy.
Look at the appointments on this, the
binding.
It's really kind of, I would say, a [Eb] rocked out kind of nylon that gives people
[Em] a lot of the stuff they look for [B] in a steel string, right?
Yes.
Well, one of the special things about this instrument is the neck [Am] profile and the
1 7 8 inch nut.
[B] This guitar is actually designed to be a crossover [E] between steel string players
[Am] to the nylon string, but still have the inherent [Em] qualities that are great about a nylon string.
[Ab] So we're trying to capture that [Abm] audience with this [E] particular series of guitar and with
this particular model being all solid wood, we want [B] that great tone and playability that
people are used to.
So that's the Orchestra Pro available now at local retailers [Bm] for portable
guitars.
Price, what are [A] we talking about?
This particular model has a matte price of [E] $1299.
The laminated version is $799, so quite
a bit different, but all solid wood over [Em] time, as you all know, [A] sounds better, [D] ages well,
and just gives you [A] that full resonance that you want out of an acoustic instrument.
Also along the line is solid woods.
These [E] two guitars are in our Iberia [A] series of instruments,
which are our lowest priced guitars that we make, and these two in particular are all
solid wood instruments.
Each one shows the spruce and or the cedar, and you can get either
one.
One has rosewood back and sides, and the other has mahogany.
[N] Matte price for [G] the
mahogany and then $90 rosewood.
[B] What should we know about bracing?
[A] Well, there's a lot to know about bracing, but [Dm] in every guitar, which is [B] a little different
than your traditional X-bracing, it's [A] actually lighter.
You can actually tune the guitar
a little better to bring out certain frequencies with the fan bracing, and that's what we utilize
in all of our guitars.
The [Dm] other thing that we [Am] utilize that's not so much bracing but
[G] construction is a traditional [C] Spanish heel.
[E] The great thing about a traditional Spanish
heel, unlike a dovetail neck or a bolt-on neck, is the sides of the guitar are actually
built [B] into the heel of the instrument, so you [Db] actually are getting a solid vibration
[C] throughout the entire guitar that's all [N] connected as one, where with most other steel string
designs and other designs, the neck and the body are kind of a separate thing.
So with
the Spanish heel and the Spanish design, [C] we're really trying to incorporate the whole
[A] body as one giant resonating unit, and that's [G] what you get out of our guitars.
Alright, so what do we have here?
This [E] is also part of our Fusion series.
[B] This is, again, directed more towards your [C] traditional
steel string or electric [B] guitar player.
We incorporate a cutaway into [A] the design, 1-7
[E] eighths inch nut, and we use some [Ab] highly figured maple for [Em] the back and sides to really give
you that exotic [B] look.
And a lot of people just love the look of beautiful wood, [C] and
that's what we offer in this particular [E] instrument.
Electronics, again it's got an easy playing neck, 1-7 [B] eighths inch nut.
The other interesting
thing about our, and I don't know if you can catch this on camera, is our Fusion series
guitars all have a radius [Am] fingerboard.
[N]
So they're not flat like a traditional classical
would be.
They actually have a slight radius in them, which will make them play a little
easier, a little more like a steel string or electric guitar.
What radius is it?
[A] I believe it's 12 inch.
If I'm wrong, I'm sorry.
[E] But I'm pretty sure it's a 12 inch radius.
So what are we talking about price-wise?
[B] This particular instrument has a map [E] price of $760.
So you get a really nice solid spruce
top, maple back and sides, cutaway, electronics, 1-7 eighths inch nut, low profile neck, [Em] radius
fingerboard, ebony fingerboard for [E] $760.
That's cool.
Very cool.
Great deal.
And if it's purchased with one of our Humacases, which is a case that we
manufacture, we own that brand, and [C] it has a built-in humidification system, you buy
[E] this guitar in the Humacase, it comes with a [B] lifetime warranty.
If you buy it with the
gig bag, which it comes standard with, it's a three-year warranty.
So all of our guitars
actually, if you upgrade to the Humacase, you can receive a lifetime warranty on everything
from our lowest price to our [Em] highest price, everything.
Alright, [E] if people want to find out more, where can they go online?
Again, CordobaGuitars [A].com. Go on there, [B] check us out.
We'd be more [D] than happy to talk to
you if you want to call us or email us.
We really want to talk to people and [Em] deliver
our message of the nylon string guitars [A] and what we're doing with it.
It's all we do.
It's all we're about, nylon string guitars.
The owner of our company has had a long history
of dealing with not only this brand, but he's been dealing with Torres guitars and [E] all of
the most high-end, beautiful nylon classical guitars over the [A] years he's knowledgeable
of.
So all that experience [E] and dedication goes into the [Gm] manufacturing every single quarter
[C] by the AC.
Alright, thanks for [Gb] your time, man.
Appreciate it.
Thanks, Joe.
