Sure Sure // On The Porch // Episode 1: What's It Like? chords
Start Jamming...
[D] [E]
[D] [A] So in the beginning of the song you're [Em] gonna hear some some uh-uhs and then
you're gonna hear like that kind of chugging guitar part and then over top
of that you're gonna hear this [Dm] synth melody.
That melody was [B] very inspired by
[F#m] a Joy Division [Dm] song.
I forget what it's called.
[G] Um, [Bm]
[N] the awful terrorism part.
Beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep.
Um, and then what to like is
Beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, [E] beep, beep.
So they're pretty different but that's good.
Can't get sued.
I [D] like that.
[E] [D] [C] We were tracking drums and we were discussing that intro fill and we tried a bunch of stuff.
We tried like some more tasteful things but the only thing that we all liked [B] was the
just the caveman
Cacoom, cacoom, cacoom, cacoom.
It's this, it's this fill.
Catoom, catoom, catoom, catoom.
Catoom, catoom, catoom, catoom.
Oh, that sounds crazy.
Catoom, catoom, catoom, catoom.
[G#] [D]
[E] What's it like [D]
[E] to be in [D] this game?
[F#]
[A] [E] And talk [D] about the book.
[E] I was reading Proust and Proust has this thing about the seed of love being the like unquenchable desire to like be a part of somebody else's world when you don't know them and their whole world is a mystery.
And all you want to know is like what is it [B] like to be a part of their world.
And so yeah, I was just, I read [F#] that.
I read that in a novel.
We were listening to a lot of Prince [G#m] when we were recording that [E] song.
Those are the two biggest inspirations for what's like Proust and Prince.
[N] In a way, yeah, I think, I think that's a really [B] astute observation.
[D] [Em]
[D] [E]
[A] [B]
[F#] For me personally, one of the strangest mixing experiences I've ever had with a song where I put like a cut from [C] like 250 hertz to like 500 hertz that literally wasn't more than a decibel and it changed the whole song and it made it sound so much better.
How did that make you feel when you discovered that? Good.
So we for for the bass line in what's it like we did this trick.
You just double the electric bass with an electric guitar.
[D] What we did on this song is we [E] pitched [D] the electric guitar down.
Charlie used a Digitech [B] whammy pedal [D] and recorded it and it is the same [E] octave as the bass.
[D] [A] What does that do to the bass sound?
[N] Well, that's a great question.
There's something intangible about producing that people people often ask me about and it's vibe.
And [E] that in that situation just enhanced the vibe.
