Start Jamming...
We made that intro drum loop using like a drum machine on the iPhone.
Here, I'll just show you right now.
Hmm, no text messages.
So it's just that, plus we also actually played bongos over that.
But it has that sort of like up-tempo cha-cha-cha hotline bling feel.
I remember I was playing my Juno synthesizer,
and I was playing like that like, sort of that pad, that chord pad.
And then in my left hand I was playing sort of a riff,
and it wasn't quite right, and I just kept messing around with it.
And then finally something clicked.
Like, [Bb] beep-beep, beep-beep [Gm]-beep-beep-beep.
[C]
[B]
I feel like I recorded like twenty different guitar parts
[Abm] on different guitars.
There's like originally this like acoustic guitar, this little, we call it the Mojito
guitar because it sounds like you're on a beach like sipping [Gm] a Mojito.
[Gb] And then you've got the riff, [Abm] which is just the riff [A] that Chris plays.
[Bb] There's like this [Bm] funky little like
[E] At the chorus, there's too many parts.
Something that happened with Warm Animal was, [Em]
there's this guy Nick Popetsky.
We had a mix that we really liked at that time [N] that we thought was done and he was like
it's not done, this isn't good enough.
And then I went back and wasn't mad at first.
I was like what the heck is this guy talking about?
And then I basically was like wait, he's right, there's a lot that could be done to this mix
and totally got it, you know, did that little extra 10% that makes it the song that you've
realistically heard before if you're watching this video.
And if you haven't, it's really a weird like ordering [C] of this whole process.
[F]
[Bb] [Gm]
[C] [F] How much should I be [Bb] reading to?
[Gm] What's the song about, Chris?
Warm Animal is about starting up a new relationship [N] with someone where you don't know each other
very well yet, but you're very hopeful that the relationship is going to go well.
And yeah, [G] it's just kind of those tentative first stages of love.
Do you have any advice [N] for people out there who may have recently met a romantic interest?
So it's like a balance between being interested but not being too interested.
I would just move in immediately.
Maybe ask if you [G] can move in really fast.
I would go really fast.
Be like, oh yeah, whatever, yeah, that's cool, like, can I hang out later?
I think it's best to go really fast.
You can't ever be too late.
Don't be late to stuff.
First off, congratulations.
Second off, it's good to start steeling yourself for the inevitable [B] deep, deep sadness that
this relationship is going to bring you.
You [F] could be five minutes late.
That's my rule.
Five minutes late, but no later.
[G] [Eb]
Um
[Gm] Thank you.
[C] Great.
