[C]
[Em] [C] [C] Hi [A] everybody, this is Rich Formidoni from Korg.
I'm in [F#] the studio with the SV-1, and I'm happy to announce that we have just finished a brand
[D] new sound bank for your stage vintage piano.
It's a collection of 44 new sounds from our own senior voicing manager, Jack [E] Hopow.
We've got some acoustic pianos with a long, [C] natural sustain, deep, dark, [E] rich electric
pianos, [Em] organs with [C] percussion, adjustable harmonic [E] registers thanks to the RX noise
layer, which [C] I'll dig into in a few minutes.
And [G] best of all, we've got some ridiculously good [F#] artist demos of these sounds up on Korg.com
[D] slash SV-1, so definitely go check them out.
So what I'm going to do is show you how to install this sound pack, and then we'll explore
some of the new sounds.
[Em]
If you haven't already [C] done so, you're going to need to install Operating [Em] System version
1.2 before you can [C] use the new sound pack.
Here's where to find it.
[Em]
Point [C] your browser to Korg.com slash [A] SV-1.
Scroll down to just [F#] below the picture of the SV-1 and click on Support.
Once you're in the [E] support page, scroll down to the Operating System section.
And there's the one you need to download right there.
SV-1 System [C] 1.2.
You'll notice a PDF instruction [E] manual inside that will walk you [C] through the installation process.
[Em]
Okay, so as you can see, I've [C] got my SV-1 editor software running, [A] and the first thing
we're going to do is back [E] up all the SV-1 data.
So what [D] I'm going to do is click this button right down here that says Back Up All SV-1
Data, [E] obviously, and we will give this a name.
A boring one like Back Up.
[Em] Give it a location, click Save, [C] and right now it's taking all the [Em] data that's on the
SV-1 and saving it as [C] a backup file.
[Em] Okay, so now all the data is backed up.
[C] Now I'm going to load the new sound pack.
[A] So let's jump over to the Back Up tab, [B] and now [Bm] I'm going to click the Open button.
From [D] there, I've got my sound pack number two file, and this file was located in the
zip file [E] that I downloaded from the website, along with the PDF that has the names of all the sounds.
[C] So click on [Em] that, click Open, and now here is the entire [C] sound pack, all the different
sounds including the [Em] favorites.
So what I'm going to do [C] now is click the Transmit button.
[Bm]
Overwrite the existing presets in SV-1.
Continue?
Yes.
[D] So now it's taking all the presets, sending them to the actual SV-1.
[E]
[Em] [D] So let's explore [C] a few of these brand new sounds.
The first thing we'll do is take a look at what's under the favorite buttons.
The first one is a great acoustic bass and piano split.
[C]
[F] [G] [Gm]
[C] [N] Now there's also the welcome addition of some hidden gestures that are in the ROM of the SV-1.
So if we transpose down an octave, we've got some slides and mutes in the bass.
[E] [D#]
Now let's check out one of the new grand piano sounds.
Here's Grand Piano 2A.
[A] It has a very, very long, beautiful, natural sustain.
Next we've got some electric pianos that have a slightly darker time than what you might
be used to with the sounds that are already in the SV-1.
[D] [G]
[D] [C]
[G] [A#] [Am] [D]
[G] Now we've also added a nice variety of organ sounds in this particular update.
So I'm going to jump over to Organ 2 and check out the way this one sounds.
[Dm]
[C] [D]
[D] Now it sounds very nice on its own, and when we hit the Slow Fast button, the rotary speaker
simulation switches from a slow to a fast speed.
And there's a little hidden trick here.
Now if you've played with the sounds that came with your SV-1, you might notice that
there's some key-off noises and mechanical noises that are part of playing the real instrument.
Those are called RX noises.
And what we've done with this particular organ sound is to use that noise layer to add a third percussion.
So as we play, I'll turn up the noise level.
[G]
[B] And now we've got a totally different sound.
[E]
[D]
So as we play with the other organ sounds, we'll find that that RX noise layer will add
things like distortion or different registers.
[C]
[A#]
So I'm modifying them right now using the editor software because it's quick and easy
to click and drag that knob.
And if you really want to fine-tune the RX layer, you can press the Function button.
And the Bass EQ knob is now controlling in a very detailed way the level of the RX noise
from to 127. So by all means, experiment with the other categories of sounds. There are new claves with variable key-off and mechanical noises, new strings in the other category, plenty of stuff to keep you occupied and show off what your SV-1 can do. [F#] It's always nice to own an instrument like the SV [D]-1 that sounds as good as it does out of the box, but it's even better when it [F#] can grow and expand [E] with you and when you can add to its value by [Em] installing sound packs that are as good as these, [C] especially when they're free. So we hope you [Em] enjoy it. Don't forget to visit Korg.com [C] slash SV-1 and listen to those great [Em] artist performances that really show off what these sounds [C] are capable of. Thanks for watching. [G] [A#] [B]
