Sweet's April 1974 album, Sweet Fanny Adams, was originally called Sweet FA,
but the record company forced a name change due to its suggestive title.
With only two songs from Chin and Chapman,
this album illustrates the band's growing confidence as songwriters.
We'd finished recording our first proper studio album, purely with Phil Wainman,
with only two or three Chin and Chapman songs on there.
The majority of the songs were Sweet songs.
That was the album called Sweet Fanny Adams.
[D] And it was a very, very creditable album.
This growing confidence and maturity is illustrated by The Sixteens.
With Chin and Chapman seeking more control over the production of the records,
The Sixteens was the first single Chin and Chapman produced without Phil Wainman.

Where
[F#] were you in 68?
[G] In 68
Julie [F#] was Johnny's date
[G#]
[F#] Two kids growing together, [G] living each day as if time [F#] was flipping away
Oh, [G] they were just sixteen [F#] and down the teenage dream
[G] They passed the time, they crossed the [F#] line between
[G] Julie, you [A] made it
[D] But life [G] goes on, [A] you [D] know it ain't easy
You just [G] gotta be strong [A] if [D] you're one of The Sixteens
And life [G] goes on, you [F#m] know, you [D] know it ain't easy
You know you'll never [G] go wrong
[A] [D] Part of The Sixteens
[G]
[D] [G]
[D]
[F#] Susie and Davey [G] got to make the big time
Maybe [F#] they can put it all together [G] in a show that'll last forever
[F#]
Oh, [G] they would walk the strip at night
[F#] And dream they saw them dating like [G] some desolation
Full of art [F#] they liked but needed light
[G] Susie and Davey, you [A] can make it
[D] But life [G] goes on, [A] you [D] know it ain't easy
You just gotta [G] be strong [A]
if you're one of [D] The Sixteens
And life goes [G]
[A] on, you know, [D] you know it ain't easy
You know you'll [G] never go wrong
[A] [B]

[B]
[A] [E] [B]
[A] [G] [F#] So where were you in 68 [G] when Bobby and Billy thought [F#] that 68 was out of date?
They took the flowers from their hair [G] and tried to make us all [F#] aware
Too bad, too late
But [G] Davey and Davey tried [F#] to do it all their way
[G] But 68 was 68, [F#] no matter what they [G] say
[A] Maybe you'll make it one day
[D] But life [G] goes on, [A] you [D] know it ain't easy
You just [G] gotta be strong [A] if [D] you're one of The Sixteens
And life [G]

[G] [A] [D] it ain't easy
You know [G] you'll never go [A] [Dm] wrong
Part of The Sixteens
I think the reason for severing the association with Phil was a lot to [G] do with me and Mike
We wanted to do something on our own with the band
And clearly the band wanted to go along with that
And whether that was the right decision or not, you know, we made a great record with them
But I think that was a lot to do with it
And I think the band were [A#] obviously happy to do that as well
[G] And, you know, we'd obviously, we'd made a lot of records with Phil
And great records they were
But what was happening, of course, was that Mike and I were [Am] making a lot of other hits ourselves [G#] by that stage
With other acts
And I think felt that we would like to take Sweet In on our own and see [A] what we could do
And I think the thing that influenced that the most was the hits we were having with other acts
