[Gb] Hey, I'm Brad Davis.
I'm at Sweetwater today and I'm holding a guitar that I actually play
day to day.
It's the P7DC.
It's a cutaway dreadnought.
It comes with a cool tube preamp
I'm going to tell you about here in just a second.
But it's also got some detail on it
that I really love.
This actually is a guitar that I play on a day to day basis.
And I love
the neck profile and everything about it.
And we're going to hear it in a minute just
on the mic and just on the pickup.
But I want to tell you a few things about it.
A
split saddle, which I like on all my guitars.
And I probably would have that on every guitar
that I own if I could get it.
Great for tuning all the way to the sound hole.
The necks on
the Takamine are very rigid and very well traveled.
I travel across the country with
this guitar and never have any trouble at all.
So it's really durable, great for the
pro, great for anybody that's playing this guitar actually.
Got a spruce top, got a rosewood
back and sides.
And it's a cutaway with maple binding on it, which I really dig.
It's an
awesome looking guitar.
It's got gold tuners on it, which I love.
But it's also got the
cool tube preamp.
Great standard Takamine bridge pickup, which has been my favorite
for many years.
But this particular preamp here is called the cool tube.
They run three
volts through this particular preamp and they put a tube in it.
It's about the size of a
reverb tube you'd see in a Fender Twin amp.
And they run three volts through it so it
makes it warm and fuzzy basically.
But the tube is cool to the touch, so they call it
the cool tube.
So it's a great pickup that runs on four AA batteries.
I get about 12
to 15 shows out of this particular battery pack.
Pops out with a tuner on board, chromatic
tuner.
It's got a three band graphic and it's also got a sweepable mid so you can sweep
that mid and make it sound even better.
And you'll hear that by itself here in just a
second.
It's got a volume, it's got a tuner, it's got a mute switch and an auxiliary switch,
which is really cool.
Which I'll put a triax in mine or I'll put it under the saddle, maybe
a contact pickup on the top.
A couple of options you can look at.
This particular knob here
is to bring the cool tube in and out.
And I want to do that for you.
When we go to the
pickup to listen, I want to bring in the cool tube and take the cool tube out so you can
hear the difference.
So let's listen to the guitar, A-beat, microphone, bridge pickup
and the preamp together.
Of course I'll give you two options on that to hear, with the
cool tube and without the cool tube.
So you'll get three options to choose from.
It's going
to be like sitting right in front of me here in the studio and you get a chance to hear
the guitar first hand.
Here's what the microphone [G] sounds like.
[C] [G]
This top's got a lot of clarity,
it's got a lot of low, a lot of sparkle as well so it's really well balanced.
Let's hear
what this thing sounds with the bridge pickup, without the cool tube.
So you're hearing basically
just the bridge pickup with a line driver power.
We've got EQ obviously but not the
cool tube.
So here's what it sounds like.
[Cm] [G]
Now for the sake of dialing this cool tube
in, I want to be able to play something where my left hand is free because I want to dial
that cool tube in so you can hear it.
So here's what it sounds like without the cool tube.
I'm going to dial this cool tube in.
You're going to watch me do it right here.
I'm going
to go to 12 o'clock.
You can hear the fatness and the warm fuzziness of this tube.
[Bb] [C]
[G] Let's
dial that out again.
It's out.
Great sound right there, totally.
Let's dial it back in.
That's what you [D] really want right there.
You want that [Bb] awesome tube sound that you can
only get with a cool tube.
The CT-P2 is what you want.
Give your Sweetwater sales engineer
a call [G] today and get you a P7DC.
They're awesome guitars.
I love them.
