[A] Hey, what's up?
This is Tamiya and you know I got soul.
[Bb] [Gm] [F]
Alright, you know I got soul here with Tamiya once again.
Just got a chance to hear the [Ab] new album, Passion Like Fire, tonight at the listening event.
[E] Really excited with the sound you came with on this album.
[A] Mixes some of the traditional Tamiya sounds [B] that we really want to hear.
Just talk about the creation of the album a bit.
The creation of Passion Like Fire, like with any album, I kind of go into it letting the [Ab] music lead the way and the melody and sort of writing.
And this album, [Bb] I co-wrote a lot more songs than normally on an album that I do.
[E] But I worked with [Bb] great [Bm] producers, Lil Ronnie, classic R&B producers, Shep Crawford of course again, and Salaam Remy who has the first single, Leave It Smokin', [Dm] which we did Beautiful Surprise and things together before.
And so it's just, I kind of just let the music lead the way and then I choose the [N] songs that I love and put them on the album.
You mentioned the first single, Leave It Smokin'.
Really love the sound you came with, Salaam Remy.
It kind of hit us upside the head.
We weren't quite [B] expecting that from you.
And we're like, wow, this is dope.
So talk about [G] having that as the first one you came with.
[A] So in choosing a single, you never [B] know what will resonate.
[D] [Ab] I loved Leave It Smokin' and [F] Salaam literally, [B] every time I leave, even with Beautiful [D] Surprise, I leave thinking I have a [Abm] great record.
And [Bb] then he sits with it for [Abm] three weeks and makes like a thousand edits on it and literally just lives with it.
And he brings back like the most amazing thing.
So I just felt such [Bb] a connection with Leave It Smokin'.
It just felt fun.
It felt like summertime.
It felt like a good way to [F] introduce the album.
[A]
But of course, [B] or and of course, I [D] definitely have the classic sort of Tamiya [D] ballads and things like that.
But [Am] I think it's important [A] to show [B] sort of ebbs and [D] flows for an album.
And [Gb] I just love Leave It Smokin'.
It's just it's a [Am] fun summertime [B] song for me.
Absolutely.
You know, with the way [Bb] R&B is going, we [E] never really know when 90s R&B artists are going to come with new album.
Are they even going to come back at all?
We've been waiting for a long time for some.
But you last released now, I believe [Bb] 2015, Love Life.
And they are [G] coming back again a few years later.
What motivated you to get back in [Am] and do it?
My team was like, you better get back [Bb] to work.
You [Dbm] know, it's different [Abm] now than it was before.
[A] You definitely don't have the luxury to [B] wait around [D] and take several years [Eb] off.
And, you know, [Bb] the music business, I think it's always been fickle, but [A] it's very quick now.
[B] So like literally a couple months after I put out Love [D] Life, they're like, when are [Abm] you doing the next album?
I literally just did this.
[A] So, you [B] know, I think that it's obviously very important to [Dm] continue to grow musically [Bb] as well.
But I love touring.
I love [N] doing shows and things like that.
So I think it's important to keep the music flowing.
And when you feel it or [E] when I feel it, I go and I record.
I [Dm] let management know, [D] like, it's time.
And then, you know, the hardest part, I think, is sort of everyone getting on the same page and saying, OK, yes, this is [G] a good time.
You go in there, you write the songs, you [A] do the album, and we are here [Bb] to support you.
[A] And, you know, E1 is all set up and management is all set up and we're all sort of have the same vision for the album.
And I think that's important as well, that it's all kind of obviously R&B needs as much [G] support as it can get.
And it takes everyone to be in the same [E] mind frame and everyone to be in position [G] in order for it to to all [B] work.
Awesome.
We're definitely glad to have you back.
[Gm] Thank you.
I'm glad to be back.
[A] Anything you'd like to add?
Well, I first of all, want to thank you guys for supporting [Dm] me for so long.
You know, even through sort of the the when I had a lot of music out and then [G] when I didn't have a lot of music out, sort of always supporting and always being there to fill people in [A] on what I've continued to do, what I've been doing, what I've been working on.
And certainly now [G] with the album Passion Like Fire, [A] it's you guys that help you guys and [A] you guys that help [Am] that have helped me [A] stay relevant and stay being able to to do what I love, which is music and which is connecting [D] with people through [G] music.
[F] So without you guys, I would not be here [G] and I would not be able to continue to do what I love.
So [A] thank you guys for always [F] supporting my music.
