Hey, how are you doing today?
Guitar Jam Daily, this is Phil Miller again.
Nice to see you.
Today, today, today, today, today, today, and I can't slap the guitar, I promised him I wouldn't.
We are doing the T5, the Taylor T5 electric acoustic.
Very interesting guitar.
Single cutaway, acoustic, spruce top, mahogany back and sides.
Take a gander, it's pretty.
Nice inlays, very nice inlays.
Ebony [D] fretboard on the neck.
What this baby's got is tone.
I was a little skeptical at first.
I took it out, normally on my acoustic gigs, I bring an acoustic and I bring a [G] dobro.
And I go, okay, the acoustic sounds good.
What they've got, five position switch on this one.
You've got a volume, bass, and treble.
So you can adjust all kinds of things if you want a little more jangle.
So the first setting is the acoustic setting, which is, it's an under the board body sensor
[D] and a humbucking, [G] which is right in here.
Body sensor's back here.
Now we go to the second setting, which is going to be just a humbucking.
Roll a little of that off.
[F#m] It's kind of a good tone.
[G#m] [E]
[B] [Bm]
[E] A little more electric setting with it.
So like I said, normally I bring out a dobro.
I was going through the settings.
And the third setting, which is this bridge humbucker.
I know it looks like a lipstick pickup.
It ain't.
It's a humbuck.
So it's got this cool
So while I'm jerking with the guitar, I'm thinking, let's try it.
A [E] little different setting.
Let's hit a little tremolo on.
Let's hit a tube screamer on, see what it does.
[B]
[E]
[F#]
[B]
[E]
It's a rocking instrument in that.
It's actually, it's meant to be played electric too.
It's kind of cool.
[D#m]
[B] So
[D] [A] And you can adjust the settings if you want to get a little more snap out of the thing.
A little more high end.
[E]
[F#]
[D] [D#] [E]
[E] You've got a lot of tones out of this thing.
So you've got different settings.
The fourth setting is the bridge humbucker and the onboard humbucking up here in parallel,
which is a kind of cool jazzy tone.
It's kind of hip.
[D]
[E] [A]
A little different voicing then when you go to the next, which is putting the pickups in series.
[E]
[G] [Em]
You need a little [D] more output to it.
Works good.
[G]
Just a little different sound between those two settings.
Real cool.
So while I was playing this thing, my skepticism was lost.
[C] [D]
[A] This is really good sounding guitars.
[G] I think for a working musician, [A] you get this thing to break up nicely.
So then I wanted to try it.
And that humbucking and gas it with a couple different pedals to see what it would do.
So I used the Pro Analog, the Boost Royale, and the Tube Screamer together just to see
what the heck it would bring forth.
[E]
[Em] [F#] [B] [E]
[A] [E]
[F#]
[C]
And it works.
Holy cow it [A] works.
For a working musician, [G]
it's a good sound.
[Em]
Go back to the acoustic setting.
I [G] [Em]
[G] [Em] like
[G] [A] [D]
[B] the fact that all these guitar companies nowadays, especially [G] Taylor's, trying to expand
a little bit so that they're making it so musicians can actually take out and [D] play.
This thing, I wouldn't have believed it if somebody would have told me that this guitar
I'd be able to take out and use on a gig.
Now that I've tried it on an acoustic gig, like I said, where I normally take out an
acoustic and a dobro, take out an old steel body, round neck, and was able to use it for
the whole gig and it sounded great.
It was able to do the slide stuff and do the acoustic stuff.
Every bit as good as a [G] hollowed out Taylor guitar.
[Em] [G] I can't wait to take it out and use it on [D] an electric gig.
[A] [F#]
All the settings, the five settings, it's one of these you've got to try it.
You've got to try [G] it yourself.
[D] [C]
