[Dm] I think that, you know, the 60s psychedelic rock, it's such a creative [C] time for music.
[B] And I think people are recognizing that now [F] and wanting to try to bring that [Gb]
into a modern context.
There's music that's, you know, [Ab] it sounds like it came from a certain time,
but it's timeless in the fact that people are going to be listening to the music for a long time.
And [Bb] just like they will with Buddy Holly or anybody else, you know, they were doing,
I mean, these guys were doing, you know, something that no one else was [Gb] doing with the electric jug
and they had these instruments that they created, just kind of [Ab] invented, kind of.
And [E] it's kind of amazing what they did and how many people they actually [B] inspired musically.
For me, it's the 13th Floor Elevator started psychedelic rock and roll
[E] and then spread it west out to [B] San Francisco.
It's one of the reasons why I moved to Austin, to try to get the Black Angels going with [D] Alex,
because of the 13th Floor [D] Elevator.
[Bm]
[D] I do like those horror movies, yeah.
I like them in 3D too.
What's your [Am] favorite one?
What's your favorite horror movie?
Well, I [E] like, I [Eb]
Walk With A Zombie, you know.
Yeah, yeah.
And stuff like [Am] that, yeah.
Did you ever see Texas Chainsaw Massacre?
Did you ever watch that one?
Yeah, [F] I went to see that at the same time I [Bb] went to see Uncle Tom's [Fm] Cabin Airs.
Oh, [Ab] okay.
[E] That's an interesting memory.
[Dm]
[D]
I believe the original connection was through one of Nate's friends.
Nate's our guitarist.
I think he knew Troy and somehow put us in contact.
They knew that we were huge [D] 13th Floor Elevator fans.
We knew that we were huge Rocky Erickson fans.
And Rocky's manager, Darren, you know Darren, called us and was [Eb] like,
you [Am] guys want to be Rocky Erickson's vacuum band?
And we were just like, yeah, totally.
You know, we don't even need to think about that.
[B] And we [A] practiced for a while and went on tour with Rocky.
That's kind of how we got to know him.
And Darren [D] had given us some of rare Rocky songs that had never been released.
[B] And we recorded some of them.
And I hope one day [N] Rocky can come sing on them.
Hey, there you go.
We did the one song with Rocky, Bo Diddley the Headhunter.
Well, great.
That's a good one.
I like that one.
[F] That's a hard one, you know.
[C] That's the song that we came out to.
We opened up with [E] that song every night when we came out.
We heard this Bo Diddley [E] the Headhunter song,
it had the Bo Diddley beat and Rocky.
Bo Diddley the Headhunter.
[D] [E] [Gb] And it was a Bo Diddley beat back then.
And it was just a super cool song.
So I think we came out to that song every night.
[E] And then Rocky would come out.
This is a dream come true for Christian and myself to be playing with Rocky.
You [D] always have [Gb] goals for your future.
I remember two years ago it was like, man, this is so cool.
We both were like, you know, it just makes sense if Rocky plays.
This was before we went on tour with Rocky.
Oh yeah, I mean, it's pretty crazy to, [Gb] you know,
grown up listening to 13 Floor Elevators.
[E] And then all of a sudden we meet Rocky and he's our friend.
[Gb] It's kind of unfathomable.
Yeah.
I always [D] like to take it easy.
That's what the elevators [E] always did, you know.
[E] It makes life that easy.
