Hey all, me again continuing [Gb] a couple lessons that I was asked for.
Somebody asked for a [Em] lesson on [N] Don't You Do It by the band.
That's a great call.
There's not a lot of versions of that song out on YouTube and
it's a relatively simple song, but there's a chord in there that I think
people get thrown by.
So in any case, again, it's a real simple song, just a couple of parts to it.
Let me just run through the main hook [E] and
and then I'll [G] explain that.
[C] [G]
[A] [Bm] Oops.
All right, [A] you get the idea.
[C] [A] So what we're doing here [N] is we're doing a G chord.
It's the F shape on the third [G] fret.
I'm pretty sure he doesn't play the full chord.
I think actually you can see him doing it in the last waltz.
Anyway, so the first chord is just a G chord strike.
Next chord is a bar at the fifth fret,
second finger on the B string at the sixth fret, and third finger on the G string at the
seventh fret.
[Bb] So you get that.
Really [A] not sure what it's called, but that's the chord though.
[E] Then he lands on a C, a C bar chord.
You [C] could probably play the full chord, I suppose, but I don't.
I [Cm] just play the power chord.
Even [N] if it looks like I'm boring, I'm not.
I'm just probably muting that A string.
So, so [Em] far you got
[Bm] [C]
[B] And then the next bit
[Ab] is just to turn back over to the G, the same G [Gb] chord shape.
What he's doing [G] though is he's hammering [Ab] on the G string,
third string from the [C] third fret to the fourth fret.
[Bm] And then he's landing on the full G chord.
So, [Gb] I think that if you listen to some live versions, occasionally he'll do this.
[Ab] And then go [G] back to
[N] So you could alternate it.
That's one of those where you could probably do it any which way.
Neither is right or wrong.
I think he does it both ways.
[G] So the whole pattern again is
[C]
[G]
[Bb] [C] [G] [B]
[N] Then the only other part is, is just basically a G chord to a C chord.
[C]
[G] [C] [G]
[C] [Gb] Biggest mistake was loving you too much.
[B] So that's that part.
Really the meat of it is
[C] [G]
