What was the reason for giving up when you had such success?
We just all sort of whacked, really.
Yeah, we were exhausted.
We were just exhausted.
But yeah, it was just, it was time.
We'd been touring almost non-stop for nine years
and we just needed to find [N] some balance in our lives.
And did you find it, do you think?
We did, definitely.
What sort of things did you do?
Had a couple babies, got married, and did a lot of music on my own.
_ _ I've played music in a band called the Continental Drifters
out of New Orleans, Louisiana.
And it's an entirely different kind of music, but it's been great.
So you've had to say goodbye to that, have you?
_ For a while.
I'm focusing on doing the new Bangles CD.
I'm very excited about that.
And Debbie?
Well, I had a group called Kindred Spirit
and we did a little UK tour with Joan on the training.
And then that sort of petered out a little bit.
And then I had a little boy.
Oh, fantastic.
You haven't had six babies, have you?
_ No, no, I collected a bunch of animals.
Oh, did you?
Yes, I did.
The fur family.
So who was it then who made the suggestion,
after all these individual solo careers, etc.,
etc.,
that you should all get back together again?
It's all her fault.
It's her fault!
_ It's all her fault.
So what made you think it's time to begin again?
I missed them.
Terribly.
I really did.
Isn't that sad?
No, I did.
And I missed _ the camaraderie,
I missed playing music with these girls
and I missed their friendship.
And _ I just felt like we had such great chemistry
when we sing together, when we play together.
It's [E] just so natural and it's so much fun.

you play your own instruments, write your own songs.
Oh yeah. _
Because some _ of the new acts now, they're great,
they're terrific, but they don't know one end of a guitar from another.
But you guys have always had that.
There are vocal groups, yeah, which is fine.
It's a different animal.
It is very, very different.
Very different.
And when you first came on, were [B] people surprised by what you [N] could do?
If you know what I mean, because you were women.
There was a couple of sort of,
they're good for chicks kind of comments.
Oh, they're alright for girls.
Yeah, very much so.
But, you know, we were sort of brought up with the music of women who did play,
like Joni Mitchell and, you know, great folk artists
and, you know, Bonnie Raitt plays great guitar.
And so we sort of, those were sort of our role models.
So for us it was very neutral.
No, very much so.
And you're going to be performing over here.
That's on Thursday.
Thursday night.
We're very excited about that.
No, that would be really good.
Have you actually been, have you been performing together over in the States?
We do lots together anyway.
Yes, yes, for about a year.
And what's the reception like?
I mean, have the fans changed?
What's it been like?
It's great, because we get everything from the people who were ten years old
when we had it hit last, you know, to their parents.
So we've got this really wide demographic that comes to see us
and they're just so happy to have a chance to go to a Bangles show.
Yeah, exactly.
You know, because it's been a while.
And we're so happy to play a Bangles show.

And to play some of our new songs too, which has been really fun.
No, that's good.
Of course it is, because, I mean, you keep developing.
You don't just go and be doing it.
Of course people come, they want to hear the hits.
And we give them that.

We do it well.

Is it better second [F] time around, Michael?
