[B] What's up everybody this is Lyrispec for [F] Real Black and I'm hanging out [Ab] with the Brand New [B] Heavies
who have just released their [Eb] long-awaited album Live in [Db] London.
[B] [Eb]
[B] [Eb]
[Db] [E] [Abm] The Brand New Heavies have been around for quite some time.
You've definitely earned your respect within the industry.
And over time, would you say that your sound has changed and in what ways?
I don't know if our sound has changed but I'll let [Ab] Ian.
Ian is going to answer.
[Db] I think our sound has changed.
I mean we change as people so you kind of [E] metamorphosize as you adapt yourself
[Db] and you pick up influences [E] along the way.
It's just a natural thing.
It's not something we kind of contrast, change naturally over time.
[Db] It's kind of, our sound [Abm] is like, if you like R&B music, it's like a live version of the records you play.
Because there aren't that many [Eb] real bands that play R&B around on the planet.
So if you like R&B and you want to see it live, then come and see the Brand New Heavies.
[Eb] Make sure you bring and wear your comfortable shoes, for sure.
We're kind of a very [E] eclectic, crunky band.
[Bb]
Soulful influences, jazz influences, rock influences, dance music.
Nice.
Bit of everything.
Bit of hip-hop as well.
Yeah.
I'm so glad [Abm] you mentioned hip-hop because there was heavy rhyme experience [Dbm] and you were one [E] of the first,
maybe we can call you pioneers, [Db] with the live instrumentation mixed with hip [E]-hop.
You had [Abm] Gangstar Farsight on that [Db] album, which was really [Abm] revolutionary.
Yeah, we just played in New York and a few guys who were on that album came down, [Dbm] actually.
Nice.
Ever think [E] about doing [Abm] something like that again with an album?
Funny you should mention that.
Very much so.
Because we actually are in the works right now.
We're working on Heavy Rhyme Experience Volume 2.
So we're totally in the mix with that.
And also another studio album that [Db] we will have out in 2010.
[E] Nice.
But the Heavy [Eb] Rhyme Experience Volume 2 should be [Db] out early 2010.
Excellent.
So tell us a little about [F] the album Live in London.
[Db] Where did you record it [Eb] and what prompted it?
We've been playing live for such a long time, we've never actually had a live recording of an album.
So we [C] thought, why not just do it now?
And [Ab] we got invited to play at the O2 London, which is a massive venue,
and the Indigo O2 London.
[F] And we thought, let's record it and it ended up being an amazing experience.
It's kind of like when you put the album on, when you [Dbm] buy it,
close your eyes and it's like being at a live show.
Because half the Heavy's experience is possibly seeing it live, you know?
As well as the studio albums, it's a whole other side to [Ab] music.
That's why I was saying people should bring and wear their comfortable clothing and comfortable shoes,
because it's more like a party, you [B] know?
More atmosphere in that case.
Oh yeah, [Eb] they was playing downstairs and I was rocking out.
I was jamming to it [Dbm] for sure.
Where can we find [B] you?
More importantly, [Bb] online?
Yeah, we have a lot of presence [Eb] online.
We're on Facebook, we have our own Facebook page.
[Gb] We're developing our own website at the moment.
[E] Nice.
[Ab] What's the website?
[Ab] It's going to be www [Abm] .thebrandnewheavies.com
Hi, we're The [B] Brand New Heavy's and you are checking [F] us out right here [Bb] on Real Black.
