The Bushwackers - I Am Australian - The Voice Australia 2023 | Blind Audition chords
Start Jamming...
[Bb] I came upon a prison ship, downtown [Bb] by iron chains.
[Gm] I cleared the land, endured [Eb] the lash, and waited for the rains.
I'm a sick, I'm a farmer's wife, on a trying [Gm] can of rum.
[Bb] I'm a convict, I'm a free man, [G] I am Australian.
When I came from the dreaming, [Eb] from the dusty [Bb] red soil plain,
[Gm] I am the ancient heart, [F] the keeper of the flame.
I stood upon that rocky shore, I watched [Gm] those tall ships come,
[Bb] Went for eighty [Cm] thousand years, I've been a ghost hostage.
[Bb] For we are one, but we are many,
[Gm] And from all [F] the lands on earth [Bb] we come,
We share the dream, and sing with one voice,
I am, you are, [Eb] we are [Bb] Australia.
For we are one, but we are many,
[Gm] And from all [F] the lands on [Bb] earth we come,
We share the dream, and sing with one voice,
I am, you are, [Eb] we are [G] [Bb] Australia.

I've been waiting since 1987 to see if I can write another song.
And the answer is no.
Can we not just gloss over the fact that you've pretty much written our anthem?
[Bb] Mm-hmm.
[N] I'll take the guy.
So I came to Australia in 1988, a year after you wrote that song.
I had a Malaysian accent and my culture was pretty different.
And I grew up, I'm an Aussie, you know, like that's my childhood.
And whenever I feel like I don't fit in or whatever as a kid, I would sing that song and I was like, I am Australian.
We are, we are Australian.
And we are multicultural here.
There are so many different types of Aussies beyond the stereotypical part.
And there's not a worse feeling than feeling like you're Aussie and someone tells you you're not.
And so thank you for that song.
I don't [Bb] know if going with a non-Australian coach is, is that all right?
No, no, I'm kidding.
But I, [Ab] as a newbie, obviously I've heard the song over the years of coming here.
And I come back because [Bb] I feel so welcomed here and I feel so [B] comfortable and safe here.
And I think that's probably why this moment is so special.
And I'm just really honoured to be part of this special moment.
[Ab] And, you know, what can I give you now?
Now that's the question.
I think, I guess we can have a lot of chats and I'll bring a lot of wine.
That sounds really good.
Now you're talking.
Also, [N] I think I could learn a lot from you all.
And we would probably have an incredible catalogue of amazing covers to do.
So I think if anything, we would have a good time.
Thank you for that.
Thank you, Raven.
Yeah, I mean, I just want to thank you guys for coming and bringing that wonderful energy.
I turned my chair because I thought, wow, what a brilliant storyteller.
You know, that person believes those words.
And now I can see why.
Because you wrote the words.
What you've created is Australia in a nutshell.
It is the epitome of family and togetherness and love.
So thank you for that song and thank you for bringing your energy.
And I would also really, really love to have you on my team.
Thank you.
[Bb] It's time to make a decision.
[Cm]
Well, [Am] look, we will [C] be absolutely honoured to work with any [Am] of you.
But Roger and I had a chat [F] and [C] as Jess said, we go back all of those [Am] years to when she was this high.
[C] And her future was very bright and of course is.
[Am] But we would [C] love to join your coaching.
[D] [A]
[Gbm] [E] [D]
[A] [Gbm] [E] [D]
[A] [Gbm] Honestly, it's such an honour to meet you.
Thank [E] you so much for that.
That was amazing.
That was so [D] awesome, man.
So nice to meet you.
All [A] respect, Ravelet. Thank you.
