THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT INTERVIEW WITH JODIE LIVINGSTON chords
Start Jamming...
It's a piece of
it's the only way to roll around is sex.
It always does doesn't it?
There's so much homoerotica in all male bands I've seen it's ridiculous.
When you get on stage sometimes I look at your ass and I just go Yeah, yeah.
No, that never happens.
I don't know, I don't know, maybe in other bands.
Say I wanted to start a band, how would I do it?
If you wanted to start a band?
Why would you want to start a band?
I don't know.
I like the idea.
I'm going to band Socks and Jodie and the Nut Tucks.
[N]
Nut Tucks, Nut Tucks, Nut Tucks, Nut Tucks.
So I say I wanted to start a band, how would I do it?
Nut Tucks, Nut Tucks, Nut Tucks, Nut Tucks.
[A#] [F]
[F#] [Fm]
[A#] [G#] [F]
[N] Okay, that's enough warm up.
Are we warmed up?
Was the tape rolling the whole time?
I don't know.
Are [G] you kidding me?
Is [B] this going on the air?
We don't use tape any more.
[E]
[C] [E] [C]
[Am] Howdy doody time.
I'll put you to a number.
[E] Hi there, hi there.
[C]
Hey, [Am] I'm Jodie with Riverfrontradio.com broadcasting [E] live from Sydney, Australia
with [Am] one of [E] Australia's most successful [C] rock bands I'd say,
[Am] [E]
[C] [E] The Butterfly Effect.
[C] What would you call yourself?
Oh, I don't know, you're too kind really.
Successful?
We [G] call ourselves The Butterfly Effect but we're not [C] very successful.
So I'm really [E] curious about the name The Butterfly Effect.
Is there some kind of meaning behind that?
[C] Yeah, well there is.
Yeah, it's that whole [G] existential metaphysics [F#] realm.
You really don't know what you're talking about.
[E] Delving into something greater than us, the mathematical theory that [G] something small can create something massive.
Yeah, [C] I don't know.
[Am] [E]
[D] So you guys are from Brisbane, Australia.
That's right.
[C] You got together about ten years ago, is that right?
That's about right, yeah.
It's been a long time.
It has been a while.
[Am] Well, it's been ten years since [E] the first band called The Butterfly Effect got together
but there's been [D#] a few different kind of lineups.
[G] Ben, our drummer and Kurt, our guitarist, have been [B] in a band called The Butterfly [D#] Effect for ten [G] years now.
So you guys are on your [E] fourth album?
Yeah, well [G] fourth release.
Fourth release album, yeah.
And this is debuting at number three, is that right?
Yeah, number three behind Metallica and Kings of Leon.
So not [C] too bad.
That's great.
Yeah, not bad company to keep [F#m] at the top of the charts.
That's [E] awesome.
And Pussyhat [F#] Dolls were behind us, so what better place for those girls to be [G] than behind us.
And your last album debuted at number two?
That's right.
Yeah, number two.
It's all downhill from [B] here.
Yeah, it was sliding backwards.
[C] And so this album, though, you were writing when you were touring on your last album, is that right?
Yeah, we wrote a lot of it while we were touring.
I think just [Am] the riffs and the general sort of starting [F#] points were written in [A#] dingy, dirty nightclubs
where [E] people throw up on the carpets and [F#] stuff.
General [B] places like that, wasn't it? Pretty much.
[F#] And we had about a year after we finished touring [G] where we put it all together and recorded it, lots [E] of stuff.
And so how do you find LA life compared to Australian life?
It's amazingly different.
[D] Do you like the [B] Americans?
I love Americans.
I think they get a bum rap.
I really think they get a bum rap.
I think they get a bad rap.
Man, they get a bad rap.
Every American that I've met over [C#] here and overseas has been [E] amazing.
And they get behind you, don't they?
Yeah, and so giving and really caring and [C] they give a shit as well.
So this latest [E] album, I'm curious to know, it has some kind of meaning behind it, does it?
Like there's some kind of [B] message?
With this one, I [B] think the story [C] behind it, well, lyrically anyway, I wrote from a sort of standpoint of a,
or a viewpoint rather, of [A] a movie, actually.
So all these characters involved [B] in some sort of conflict, whether it be conflict of the self, conflict between two people, [C] world conflict.
I'm trying to [E] introduce America to some really great Australian music.
Thank you.
And so if you had to describe yourself and your music, [G] how would you do that?
Just a good fun band.
A good fun band.
Yeah.
[C] We're sort of a rock, we're just trying to describe [E] ourselves as a straight up rock band.
[C] There's [E] a guitarist, a bass player, a drummer and a singer on stage making a lot of noise.
So running around.
So who are your, like [D] who would be main [B] influences, if you have any?
[A#] Oh, I'd say [E] from old school stuff like Faith No More and Tool and Deftones.
Incubus, that sort of band.
So [C] we want everybody to go and check out your website, which is butterflyfet.com [B].au.
That's the one.
[Em] And you have a MySpace page as well. Yeah.
There's a that on the front, so the that butterfly.
The [G] butterflyfet.com.au.
Well, thank you guys.
Yeah, check out the website and I'm Jodie with riverfrontradio.com.
See you again very soon.
