Today on Rooster Teeth and Gear we check out the cheapest tube amp on Monoprice.
[Bbm] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [Eb] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [Gb] _ [Bb] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [Ebm] _ _ _ _
_ _ [Gb] _ [Eb] _ I was recently sent a link to
presumably the cheapest _
guitar tube amplifier on
Monoprice.
Now for those of you who don't know Monoprice is kind of the place to get the ultra cheap stuff.
[Ab] You can get stuff with
presumably nice features, [B] but it may be [Bb] good and it may not be good.
It just kind of depends on what it is.
_ [Cm] _ So for $99 I got this guy from
_ Stage Right.
Stage Right Amplification.
_ This is a _ 1x8 guitar _ _
amp combo with a Celestion speaker no less.
So we're gonna open this up.
We're gonna see how it sounds _ and
we will judge accordingly.
But first we gotta unbox [Ab] it.
_ _ I _
_ _ [Eb] _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [Ab] have it upside down.
Of course I do.
Why wouldn't I?
_ _ _ _ [Cm] _ _ _ _
_ [Eb] Boy, that sure smells funny. _ _
See it's upside down even though the box is right side up. _
Monoprice.
_ _ _ _ _ Okay, [F] _ _ [Cm] _ _ _ _ _ _
_ [Eb] _ _ _ _ _ all right.
[C] _ _ _ _ _ Smells terrible.
_ Velcroed in.
All right, so.
Oh, geez.
_ _ _ Factory's all over me.
All right, so here we are.
This is the Stage Right
_ _ _ [Cm] guitar
_ _ amp.
It's the _ _
_ _ 611705 to be specific. _ _
Feels pretty good.
There are there is a
there is a single 6v6 tube and one _ 12ax7 tube.
I suspect this is probably voiced like _ _ _
like a Fender Champ or something like that.
One of the small classic Fenders of the _ 1950s.
Which are legendary amps used on all sorts of _
records in the 60s, 70s, 80s, actually [D] even [Eb] today.
I mean, they're still very popular amps because there's a lot of bang for the buck and you can do a lot.
They take good pedals.
_ They take pedals well.
I don't really know what takes good pedals means.
But there's also an 8-inch _
Celestion Super 70.
So
I'm excited to kind of see what this sounds like.
So let's mic this up and see what [Bb] we got.
All right, [Gm] so to give it the best chance
[Cm] of sounding awesome, I'm using [Ab] a Custom Shop Fender Strat.
[Cm] That just sounds incredible.
I have the _
the tone control is at noon.
[F] _ _ The volume is at 2.
[Eb] _ _ _ _ _ [N] _
_ _ _ Here we go.
_ _ [A] _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ Let's try the neck position. _
_ [G] _ [A] _ _ _ [N] Okay, that's [D] that's pretty good.
_ [Dm] _ _ [Gm] _ _
_ _ _ [C] _ [F] _ _ [G] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [C] _ [E] _ _
_ _ [D] _ _ _ _ [C] _ _
_ [A] _ _ [Em] _ _ _ I'm gonna try turning down the tone _ a little bit.
_ [A] _
_ _ _ _ _ _ Back to the [G] bridge.
[A] _ _ _ [Dm] _ _ _ [A] _
[G] _ _ [A] _ _ _ [E] _ _ [G] _
_ [Dm] _ _ [A] _ _ I'm turning the tone [N] all the way off.
[A] _ _ _ _
[Em] Okay, that's better.
[A] _ [G] _ [Dm] _ [A] _ [C] _ [E] _
I believe I'm at full cut.
So I'm rolling off most of the trouble.
_ _ [Gm] _ [G] _ _ [Dm] _ [A] _
_ _ [G] _ _ Okay, so _ I
realize this isn't supposed to be some kind of crazy like a high gain amp or something like that.
It's a very, it's a very country [Am] amp actually.
_ _ _ [A] _
_ _ [Abm] _ _ [Am] _ _ [G] _
Those are my country looks.
I don't really know country.
But _
let's plug in the cheapest guitar from Amazon
_ into the cheapest overdrive pedal on Amazon _
into the cheapest tube amp on Monoprice.
I think we could possibly get some good results. _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ Yeah, all right.
So I'm using the overdrive as a boost. _
[F] _ _ _ _ _ [Gb] Who knows what could happen?
Anything.
_ _ _ [Ab] _ _
_ _ _ _ [F] _ _ _
I'm gonna roll the tone [Gb] down.
[Ab] _ _ [B] _ [Db] _ _
[B] _ _ [Gb] _ _ [Ab] _ _ [E] _ [Db] _
_ _ [Gb] _ _ _ _ [Dbm] _ _
[Db] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [Ab] _ _
I actually cannot keep this guitar in tune anymore.
At all.
I should probably change the strings.
They're still the original ones.
Okay, real talk though.
This is actually a pretty decent amp for what it is.
I mean for a hundred [Cm] bucks, you have a tube amp.
I definitely could see this as just having an amp kicking around in a home studio for some country stuff.
I should also note there is an external speaker jack on the back.
So
_ _ [Eb]
you could theoretically plug in a 412.
_ But the circuit is still gonna be the same.
So maybe that'll add some low-end going to a bigger speaker.
[Ab] But overall I would use it for what it's meant to be, which is a real small _ _
[Ebm] clean combo and there's a lot of uses for that with the reverb pedal.
[Cm] Could be super cool, honestly. _ _
This amp is pretty loud as well.
I would actually call this amp fairly decent.
_ It's just real pure tone.
So _ yeah, there you go.
99 bucks, mono price.
I back it.
I give it the beard of approval.
_ _ All pickable links down below in the description.
You've been wonderful.
I've been Fluff.
