Hello.
Congratulations.
I mean when we last talked to each other, you were just beginning.
Just beginning, yeah.
Yeah, what was the secret?
How did you do it?
We just went to America and we spent six months, no five months touring and everything.
And it just kind of just kept going up and up and up and it just kind of, the sales just went
completely out of hand and MTV really took to us over there, you know.
Yeah, now you were all sort of, you're all from Limerick.
Yes.
Two brothers, Michael and Noel.
Yeah.
And on the drums.
Ferg.
That's Ferg on the drums.
Hiya Ferg.
Yeah.
Has it gone to [E] your head at all?
Oh, not at all.
Like you're driving limos and all that sort of.
Oh yeah, we have our own drives in our limos, all right, you know, you have to do that kind of thing,
but no, it hasn't actually changed us and [G] all our families are here tonight.
All your mum and dad are here and I think Ferg's mum and dad are here as well.
They're in front row there.
Yeah.
Let's have a look at the people who spawned such wonderful talents.
Howie, were you surprised folks at the reaction you got?
Absolutely.
Yeah, and did you worry about them going off to America to seek fame and fortune?
They're very young and one would always worry they might [Gm] be exploited,
but we're very happy with the reaction.
Once they started sending the dollars [G] home, you thought.
We're waiting for those.
Mind you, the phone calls have been reduced, [D] I must say.
We're not getting reverse phone calls anymore.
Oh, they're paying for their own phone calls now, [N] are they?
That's very good.
I'm pleased about that.
I'm sure Linus is pleased too.
Yeah.
How did the whole thing break for you?
I mean, you were on tour with various bands.
Yeah, we were on tour first with an English band called Dada and they were kind of about here
and we noticed that sometimes our reactions are better than theirs, some gigs, you know,
and then we did a few headlines and Dreams,
we released it to radio stations and they kept playing Dreams.
That was a song we did here the last time.
Yeah, I played it on the radio yesterday as it happens.
That's right, yeah.
Go on.
And then just we went on tour with Duran Duran, you know, and that was good.
It was like big arenas, people who'd never seen us before.
And then we released Linger and MTV just played it all the time
and it's at number 16 at the moment, you know.
Right.
And how did Duran Duran feel about you guys getting bigger cheers than they were getting?
They were really nice, actually.
Simon Le Bon was like really into the Cranberries, really.
He was a fan, he really likes our music.
Is it true that you Very supportive.
Is it true that you used to have a picture of Simon Le Bon on your bedroom wall?
Yes, I did.
I loved him.
I told him into his face.
I told him, embarrassed him, you know.
But he's a nice man, very nice.
He's a nice man.
Well, of course, he's been there, done that, made a lot of money.
And
And one lesson that we all learned is that it's possible to keep your head together
because if they kept their heads together, they'd been too lost, you know.
It was a nice tour and it just helped us a lot.
It just helped us a lot.
Right.
What's going to happen to you now?
Because, I mean, all of this was a big surprise and you had an album and you had the songs.
But you've been so busy now.
Have you been writing more songs?
Yeah, we've been writing an incredible amount, a lot more than before.
Because I just think when we're on the road,
music seems to be our only escape from all the hype and fans and things.
So we tend to write a little bit more on the road.
We're ready to record a second album and it's a matter of time.
I think we're going into the studio in February to record it.
We're hoping to bring it out in America before the summer or at least before the autumn.
What sort of reception did you get last night in Limerick?
Oh, it was amazing.
It was brilliant.
It was excellent.
It was a good welcome home.
I was just going to give the microphone to the crowd and say,
here lads, you sing the songs because they were so good.
They knew every lyric.

You get that, yeah.
Yeah, so [F#] you're really big in the United States.
Yeah.
Do they know you're an Irish band?
[N] Probably half and half.
Some people come up and they start telling you that they're from Ireland and, you know,
wacky stories.
But then other people come up and, you know, they just think we're from England.
Actually, we did this show on MTV and this guy introduces us to Cranberries from Limerick,
England.
And we had to be pressed in Limerick and he was really embarrassed.
I remember that.
Yeah.
Well, it certainly doesn't seem to have gone to your heads and I'm absolutely over the
moon about your success.
It's really terrific.
Yeah, it's brilliant.
It's brilliant.
And long may it continue.
Yeah.
The second album's always the toughest, isn't it?
It is, yeah.
Oh, it'll be fine.
We'll be grand.
As long as the gurus in MTV are in love with you.
That's right, yeah.
That's all that matters.
We'll keep them in love.
Play the game.

We're hoping to bring it out in America _ before the summer or at least before the autumn.
What sort of reception did you get last night in Limerick?
Oh, it was amazing.
It was brilliant.
It was excellent.
It was a good welcome home.
I was just going to give the microphone to the crowd and say,
here lads, you sing the songs because they were so good.
They knew every lyric.
They knew all the words.
It was brilliant.
It was_
They were excellent.
Like, you know, there's no place like home really, you know.
No one begrudging you your success or anything like that?
Not really.
Just the odd_
Not really, the odd one.
Silly comment, but I mean, you get that.
You get that, yeah.
Yeah, so [F#] you're really big in the United States.
Yeah.
Do they know you're an Irish band?
_ [N] Probably half and half.
Dolores, thank you.
And Fergie and Michael and Noel, congratulations.
Well done.
And thanks a million for coming back on the show.
Yeah, well, thank you.
Delighted to have you.
Thank you for having me. _ _ _
