[F] What do they [Ab] think of the coffee service?
It's nice?
Very [Gb] change.
Rock and roll, [Db] usual sort [Fm] of bit of Mitchell's cooking.
Civilised.
It is, I think.
We didn't get [Ab] off stage until about 2 last night.
Oh [Eb] really?
How was the gig?
It was great.
Because you're playing [Ab] with the Saints at the moment, aren't you too?
Yeah, with Celine and [Cm] it was about 2 o'clock by the time we came [Fm] off stage
and then by the [Ab] time you sort of unwind and [Eb] get home.
Yeah.
So this is very [Db] civilised.
And you've got a hell of a long way to drive to [Gb] Barrel.
[Bbm] I'm not supposed to mention that [Ab] I put in [Db] a substitute suburb.
Annandale, isn't that a substitute suburb? Shut up!
Actually we're about to play the new video very shortly and it's a really great clip.
[Ab] It's a what?
A very great clip.
It's a very [Db] great clip.
Yeah.
Don't worry about my English.
I know, historical sense of the [Eb] word.
He's a [Ab] little bit nervous.
And you just got it satellited over.
That's right.
[Gb] We stole it and [Fm] the record company don't even know about this.
And boy are they going to be spitting chips on Monday when [Ab] they get into work.
Well they'll probably be Monday afternoon by the time they get into work.
[Eb] Anyway, the album, [Ab] may we just say congratulations, it sounds great.
Thank you.
[Cm] And [Gm] I guess I [Fm] should really talk about lifestyle
because I'm [Eb] interested in what the stars do when [Db] they're away from the stage.
I mean I have a [Gb] whisper that you're into skin diving.
[Bbm] Scuba diving.
Scuba [Db] diving?
Yeah.
Is there a difference between skin and [Ab] scuba?
Oh, I don't know, it's like calling it [Eb] flippers and fins, you know.
Goggles and [Fm] schnorkles.
Yes, all that kind of stuff.
How long have [Eb] you been doing it for?
[Db]
Since 84.
You've got your ticket [Gb] and all that comes with it?
[Bbm] Why do you do it?
[Db] I think it's just good, I mean the rock and roll lifestyle and all [Eb] that,
it's good to [Ebm] sort of get back to nature.
I [Dbm] go wreck diving actually, when I'm a wreck I [Bb] go [Eb] down there and go wreck diving
up to the Solomon [Ebm] Islands [Ab] where all the [Db] wrecks are from the Second World War.
[Abm] Have you had much chance with [Ab] that lately?
Because you've both been pretty busy.
Sometimes, not heaps.
Not heaps?
[Db] No, it's like a whole excursion in itself.
So you've remixed and recorded the album in New York?
[Ab] In Los Angeles.
In LA.
And how was that?
Because I mean you've worked [Cm] over there a couple of times, haven't you?
[Fm] Yeah, we recorded our first album Desperate [Eb] in New York
and [Ab] this one we decided to do in Los Angeles.
Probably [Fm] mainly because Mike Chapman, [Ab] our producer, lives [Eb] there
and he didn't want [Db] to go further [Ab] than five miles [Gb] away from this front gate.
[Bb] We recorded at this great studio [Db] called Sunset Sound where Prince has done a lot [Ab] of work there
and the Stones and it's like this [G] really funky studio.
[Fm] Have you guys changed since the [Ab] Desperate days?
I mean I [Db] know the band's changed.
I'm not allowed to make jokes like that and see it's better when you guys do it
because then they say, I wish John [Ab] would take it a bit more seriously
but I didn't [Db] do the change clothing joke.
[Ab] Right, yes we have changed.
You've changed your image too a little bit, haven't you?
[Cm]
Oh yeah, like the [Fm] school uniform bit.
Yeah.
I [Eb] don't know.
Mark's wearing that now.
[Bb] Yeah, [Ab] that's right, that's right.
[Abm] Here it is, rock and roll school [Bb] uniform.
Can we [Db] talk about very briefly, there was a few problems,
I thought you were working with a producer in England,
the guy who did Art of Noise and all that sort of stuff.
He did the War and Life album.
Was there, I mean there was a few rumours going around the industry
that there was like a bit of a non-Compass vibe,
that he didn't really get on that well or a few arguments.
[Abm] No, nothing as interesting as that.
[Ab] We did the album and [G] everything was fine
and [Em] then we weren't really happy with the content
[G] so we recorded some more songs but no, it was fine, he was great to work with.
He was good, Gary was [E] great.
But are you very cautious about your own sound?
I mean it must be a big thing after you've done a whole album,
suddenly go, no we don't like it and we'll go back and do it again.
Is that a [G] hard decision to make?
Yeah, I think [A] it's not a case of we didn't like [E] the whole [B] album,
we just wanted to, by the time it all happens,
[E] there's so many things too, like when you're signed to an American company
and stuff, it takes a long time to get things [G] going,
[E] to send it over and get it back.
Do they have much say, [Bm] like, because I know that the James Rain clip
has just been remade, Fall [Em] of Rome,
because the American company didn't like him, [B] what he was wearing,
they wanted him in a sort of jeans and a T-shirt.
Do you get people [Bm] saying, hey, love the stuff, it's fantastic,
but [A] listen, Christina, could you [B] maybe wear something else?
Could we get back to that schoolgirl thing?
Do you find that they dictate to you a lot?
[Abm] They haven't so far, it's just if they don't like it,
they won't [B] get behind it.
[Em] So it's like, if we don't [B] like it, we won't get [E] behind it,
so [B] that's the [E] thing, that's what happens.
And if Mark doesn't like it, he'll just go and play in one of his model planes?
[N] Is that true that you're actually into sort of, are they radio control ones?
No, not those ones.
Not those ones.
He's got real ones too.
Yeah, I sort of, I [E] like them, I build them, I fly them, I crash them, I burn them.
Good, remind me not to go flying with you at any stage, Mark. That's true.
Just the models.
Just the models.
They're a great band too.
But the real ones too.
Oh, not the models.
Now, we're going to show Hey Little Boy.
Which was originally Hey Little Girl, wasn't it?
Now, what was the band that originally put that out?
Sound Syndicate.
Whatever happened to Sound Syndicate?
I don't know.
It's still out there [D] somewhere.
They're [E] raking in the royalties as soon as this [A] song becomes a big hit.
[E] I heard the song when we were in LA and I really [B] liked it.
I didn't.
You [D] didn't.
She didn't want to do it, actually.
What do you think about it [A] now?
I love it.
Yeah?
[E] It's kind of [B] good when that happens.
Yeah, it [Abm] was good.
I mean, I didn't like it for a little short while.
After she [D] heard it, she [Ab] liked it.
[A] It's [Gb] like that, isn't it?
[Bbm] Danno and I [A] like that one.
[D] We say, [G] we [C] like it, we hear [G] it.
Congratulations.
You're going to be playing [F] around with the [A] Saints for quite a [D] while?
[G] No, we just did [C] last [G] night tonight at Salinas.
And then you're going to [E] be on the road around the country?
[D] [Gm] We [A] might be doing a few more dates before we go overseas.
Alright, well [E] listen, you're welcome back to Saturday Morning Live any [Gm] time.
Thank you very much.
[A] Stick around, enjoy the coffee, let's have a look at Hey Little Boy.

up to the Solomon [Ebm] Islands [Ab] where all the [Db] wrecks are from the Second World War.
[Abm] _ _ _ Have you had much chance with [Ab] that lately?
_ Because you've both been pretty busy.
[Cm] _
[Ab] We did the album and [G] everything was fine
and _ _ [Em] then we weren't really happy with the content
[G] so we recorded some more songs but no, it was fine, he was great to work with.
He was good, Gary was [E] great.
But are you very cautious about your own sound?
I mean it must be a big thing after you've done a whole album,
suddenly go, no we don't like it and we'll go back and do it again.
Is that a [G] hard decision to make?
Yeah, I think [A] it's not a case of we didn't like [E] the whole [B] album,
we just wanted to, by the time it all happens,
[E] there's so many things too, like when you're signed to an American company
and stuff, it takes a long time to get things _ [G] going,
[E] to send it over and get it back.
[Em] So it's like, if we don't [B] like it, we won't get [E] behind it,
so _ [B] that's the [E] thing, that's what happens.
And if Mark doesn't like it, he'll just go and play in one of his model planes?
[N] _ Is that true that you're actually into sort of, are they radio control ones?
No, not those ones.
Not those ones.
He's got real ones too.
Yeah, I sort of, I [E] like them, I build them, I fly them, I crash them, I burn them.
_ _ Good, remind me not to go flying with you at any stage, Mark. That's true.
Just the models.
Just the models.
They're a great band too.
But the real ones too.
Oh, not the models.
_ Now, we're going to show Hey Little Boy.
_ [E] I heard the song when we were in LA and I really [B] liked it.
_ I didn't.
You [D] didn't.
She didn't want to do it, actually.
What do you think about it [A] now?
I love it.
Yeah?
[E] It's kind of [B] good when that happens.
Yeah, it [Abm] was good.
I mean, I didn't like it for a little short while.
_ After she [D] heard it, she [Ab] liked it.
