groups in pop history.

PBS specials, and they have not performed on live network television since American
Bandstand in 1959.
They have not until today, y'all.
Not until today.
Do the honors, Mr.
Clark.
Many of you, I'm sure, will remember this tune.

[N]
Whoo!
[G] You know, that song [E] hits every time.
It hits every time.
[N] Terry, you are the last original member of the Flamingos.
Please introduce us to the [D] Flamingos of today.
[N]
Stan Princeton.
Stalling Newsome.
Our musical director and vocalist, miss Theresa Tree.
How long have you been with the group?
39 years.
And you knew when you, how did you know?
What made you say I want to be a flamingo?
Well when Terry and I met we discovered very earlier that we were very
compatible as writing and producing partners and the flamingos, the original
flamingos, their stage show was variety.
Yeah.
So I covered the [E] girl in, the Tina
Turner, Dennis [N] Joplin.
It's fantastic.
That stuff.
[G] You guys are working with
[N] Boys to Men right?
Is this a home run?
Yes, Terry and I.
The reason I just produced them, went to
California and they're doing I'll Never Ask For You.
[Ab] Fantastic.
These guys can
sound like y'all.
Oh [Bm] yeah.
And so now [N] when did you join?
When did you join the
flamingos?
About four years ago.
Really?
Four years ago.
Yeah.
The manager had
called me up [Ab] and asked if I wanted to be in the group because they saw me on
YouTube.
I says you don't have [N] to ask me twice.
They came to see me.
It was
love at first sight.
Love at first sight.
And how about you?
[G] Four years.
Wow.
And so you
keeping the music going?
Oh you [N] have to.
Well hey.
I grew up too because my mom played you guys and my dad you know I grew up playing the house
music like this.
But you guys influenced so many people like The Temptations and
The Imperials and Freaky and Valley and the groups in your category are known
for their choreography right?
And you [G] just smoothed it out.
So [N] who comes up
with the choreography?
Why is it such a staple in doo-wop group?
Well Paul Wilson
was the main choreographer and he was the man.
The dimples.
And yeah and I
still I still I can dance.
You got it.
I mean no I'm fast though.
Can you do the
nae nae?
I can do the nae nae and the bae bae and the sega sega.
So as I was thinking about my dancing
abilities.
No I'm everybody watch.
We're ready.
Did you see it?
I [G] have those same abilities.
And so when did you all realize as this group that [Ab] yes we found
that sound?
[N] Because it's very specific.
It's very it's smooth you just want to
get all in the bed with somebody.
When did you know that that this incarnation
was gonna work?
When I first met these guys they were so unique I knew it was a
blessing from God.
Because it had that same tone that the Flamingos had.
When I
was teaching them what I wanted them to do.
These guys they laid it on me.
How old
were you guys when you when the Flamingos [Gbm] started?
18.
[G] I have a question [N] for Teresa.
So is it true that you're the first female member of the group?
How did you
convince him?
[B] Oh gosh that's a good question.
[G]
Like I said [Gbm] the main thing was
the original Flamingos a lot of people don't know this [N] because they just see
the Dick Clark clips.
But on their live stage show they did all styles of
music.
So I like I said I cover the female artists Diana Ross all those
different flavors for variety of music for the people.
Tina Turner she does a great Tina.
Oh see?
Yes.
Well listen I know y'all fell in love right now so if you want to
see the Flamingos again they're appearing in concert at Resorts Casino
in Atlantic City on Friday July 10th and at the Highlander Auditorium in Upland
California on July 18th.
Baby [Eb] this is no [D] joke.
[G] Please thank you Flamingos for
coming [B] and grace us.
