This is gospel music today.
We're at the National Quartet Convention in Louisville, Kentucky
And I am sitting here with one of my favorite groups, and I'm telling you the truth
[Gb] These are the Freemans and [C] it's a great pleasure to have them on gospel music today
Next to me is Chris and Chris welcome to gospel [Fm] music.
Thank you so much for having us
I'm gonna ask you to introduce these [C] other two people.
Well.
This is my best girlfriend here my daughter Misty
And this is my husband
[A]
Darrell and of course Kaelin our son.
He's running around convention somewhere and
But we feel blessed to be part of this today now before we catch up with the Freemans
I want to know a little bit about your background.
I know you have an [Abm] interesting [G] history in gospel music
[C] You made me sound like I'm just really going back in history
You know what this is my 35th year of being full-time in the ministry
[Dm] Came out from [F] California joined the original Henson's
And then married my best friend here
[B] about seven years [E] after I joined them and
So we [F] do we go way back Darrell though.
He's he's been actually out here on the road longer than I have but
[C] [B] Hey, we 22 years 20 actually 28 years.
[Dm] We've been together
We've been married, but the last [G] 22 years.
It's just been our family, [C] and we just feel blessed
[F]
Tell me [C] Darrell tell me a little bit about the the Freemans now how much do you travel?
What do you what do you do?
We do probably
175 dates a year
We're all family like she was talking about
Do a lot of different kinds of events summertime.
We're mostly outdoors
[D] Fairs whatever do a lot of churches [F] do a lot of different events
[G] Quartet convention every year for a few [Bm] days
Enjoy this been doing this for been on the main [N] stage here for 22 years
Okay, Kalen plays the drums and your cousin Joe is he still
Joe's been with us for 22 years and plays keys sings and
Does a great job out there?
Now we have another member, but let me get misty in here a little closer
Because you're not only part of the Freemans here, but there's a whole there's a misty Freeman
[G] Operation going on [Eb] separately tell me a little bit about what's happening with [Bm] you.
Well.
I just [Ab] came out with my [Bb] third solo CD
[Bbm] this spring [Ab] and
I'm still traveling full-time with the family doing a few solo dates here and there and [Gb] just really enjoying it
Some of those some of the misty Freeman songs are [Db] wonderful
I have to [F] tell you I
[N]
Usually I just [Eb] ask a few questions
[F] Sitting here with [Db] I'm telling you one of my favorite
[Fm] I can [Em] tell a Freeman [A] song a mile [Gb] away
It's just
I just love I [Eb] have
I'm supposed to just ask questions
[F] [Db] Hey, we [Abm] appreciate you being Marshall
[D] Definitely I am too.
[Gb] I think they're great
Let me ask you this [D] when when the [Eb] Freemans
When the concert is over [E] and you're back on the bus, and you've left town
What do you want the [Bb] people to remember?
I've always felt and [D] we've always
You know you can [Am] sing good.
You could look good
But I feel if it's not anointed people are going to forget you fast.
It's the anointing that
Truly leaves the lasting impression on people's heart and
[A] there's been many many times people would come to [Em] hear us saying that wouldn't even go to [B] church and
our desire [D] is that you know we'll leave something there for them and
We've seen a lot of those people give their lives to the Lord through the years, and that's what it's all about
[A] Darrell [G] what's we have a new Freeman CD?
Yeah, [Dm] and we're getting ready to start on something new actually our CD.
That's out now has [E] been out for
[Bm] probably year and a half so
Getting [C] ready to start getting all these new songs in start cutting something new
Our new single that's out three rugged crosses will be [D] our last song to radio off this album
But [Cm] it's been good.
I mean [A] and we I love the recording process.
I'm ready [Ab] and [Am] new music
[D] But we're ready to keep on we had a number one song off of the CD [Am] to which was we felt blessed
Some good [Dm] radio songs, and [B]
so we're just like Darrell said he's he's the one that likes to record.
[D] I'm lazy
I don't I love to go out there and sing, but [Dm] I hate the studio work, but Misty and Darrell
They love the studio work where do the [G] songs come from?
[C] Wherever we can find them different right [F] a lot of writers in town, Nashville.
We live and of course over [Eb] the years we've
We know a lot of the writers, [Ab] so we'll call him.
What do you got and then we go back and find a lot of the [Db] old hymns
Possibly and then we keep everything [F] we
If we got a song five years ago.
We still got it.
They might go back and grab a song that maybe didn't
We didn't think we recorded the time
But maybe it [Eb] wasn't time for the song that we go back and [Bbm] grab and that's happened a lot
That's why [Eb] we keep all these songs
[Ab] Do you have do you have a lot of hands-on influence with the recording?
Process we know some people just show up in the studio and sing I get the impression.
That's not [Abm] no what happens now
We we handpick studio [Gb] engineer
musicians songs
[C] We're not with a record company
[B] not that that's bad, but
[D] We're independent souls that want to do it the way we want to do it
We feel like that fits us well
We're always hard to work with I mean I think we're good to work with but I mean
We're just it's you know like you said [B] it.
Just kind of has to come from [A] the heart
We if we feel it we feel the people that's listen to feel it
We have any [F] new misty Freeman [A] projects on the way well the
One [D] just came out so it'd be a little while
I'll be here so before I do another one, but and this one
I [A] wrote about half of it co-wrote a lot of the songs so I'm [E] hoping it it makes a big impact and stays around for a while
[A] It's a great sound
[B]
Wall of Freemans, thank you very much.
It's been [E] a great pleasure to have you on gospel [D] music
Beyond here, thank you [F] now back to more gospel music today
