[G] The process of recording the second album feels
[D] a lot more satisfying.
[A]
For me, [Gm] the most important things, like the
[Dm]
[G] the [Dm] way it makes you [C] feel,
the way it can [G] kind of open up your heart
when you listen to it [Em] and
I don't know, it's like [C] somebody just [F] reaching in
and twisting a [G] tap open [C] and [G] like
[Dm] a fruit of [C] joy and being delighted [G] to be alive.
[Em]

[G] [Dm]
[G]
It's just such a [Dm] pleasure being with such talented [Gm] musicians
because every time the bow hits [C] [G] the string
or the finger [Dm] hits the ivory,
just something [C] very nice [G] happens
and you know, I've never thought of that as a given
but it does happen [Am] a lot with this [Gm] gang.
[G] [Dm] One [G]

[F]
[G] [Dm] of the things that [Bb] was in my mind initially
[C] before we came together as a [G] band
like when we were kind of,
when [F] I was [Bb]
[Am] pondering this idea
[Bb] was that all [F] the musicians had a kind of [G] an [Gm] aesthetic [Fm] [Dm] field
[Am] that had [C] compatibility all around
and [Gm] what has happened over the course of time
[Dm] is that that has come closer [C] and closer and closer
so that [Eb] I could now see each [G] piece of music
as [C] a [F] distinct expression of feeling
[C] and I think this album just has more feeling in it
than the first [G] one.
[F] So it's kind of, [G] there's a kind of a [Am] joyfulness in it
and in some [Gm] cases like I think we feel
it feels like almost a little euphoric here and there,
you know, maybe [Bb] that's an overstatement of the experience of it
but it's certainly joy
and I think there's a lot of childlike simplicities in it.
I think learning to play very simply
and to not be [G] afraid to play in an innocent
and kind of vulnerable way, you know,
in other [C] words like [Em] not playing as if there [C] was a point
to be proven about how one [Am] plays, you know.
[Em]
[G] [C]
[Em]
[D] [G] The [C] main thing is to make it sound natural
[G] and I think we've done that with this album.
I'm happy with it in that we didn't [C] overwork it
[G] and then play the tunes over, you know,
thousand times to try and [Am] get what we wanted.

My role has been partly [C] that in kind of,
in [Em] meeting Irla, Quivin, Dennis and Martin,
I'm listening [C] from very much outside the tradition.
I think it can sometimes be hard for any of them
to [Em] hear what it is that they do that is extraordinary,
[C] [G] that reaches beyond the bounds of [C] that
and that really will just like touch anybody
and so I think that's [Em]
been my role
in this band is to [G]
honestly to have very little regard
[C] for the tradition and to just be listening to like,
okay, simply as an artist,
simply as [Em] [G] someone who is trying to move other people,
[C] what is it that you can do that no one else can do.
