Rock band Oasis formed in 1991 in Manchester, England.
[A] The group originated from another band [C] called The Rain and [Em] was comprised of guitarist Paul Arthurs, bassist Paul McGuigan, drummer [A] Tony McCarroll and vocalist Liam Gallagher.
The lineup was solidified later that year [F] when Noel Gallagher came on as the band's leader and main guitarist, while [B] Arthurs took over [A] rhythm guitar.
Oasis spent the next few months playing [B] shows and recording a demo.
[F#m] They were then discovered by the co-founder of [A] Creation Records, Alan [B] McGee, in [F#m] 1993.
Their debut, Definitely [A] Maybe, dropped the next [B] year.

Thanks to several successful singles such as Supersonic [B] and Live Forever, [F#m] the critically acclaimed rock [F#] disc went to number one in the UK [B] and found [F#] commercial success in the States.
The [F] subsequent live dates were [F#] fraught with tensions between [A] the Gallagher brothers and this [E] sibling rivalry became a continuous [B] source of media fodder throughout the band's existence.
[A] [E]
[B] Following lineup [B] changes [A] that included McCarroll's replacement by [E] Alan White, Oasis released their [D] second album in [C] 1995.
[A#] Despite mixed reviews, What's The Story, Morning [A] Glory topped the UK charts and reached the fourth position in the US.
[F#m] The alternative rock effort became a commercial success [E] and spawned several huge hits.

[A] [C#] With the band at the peak of their popularity, [F#m] the highly anticipated [A] disc became Britain's quickest-selling [B] record to that point and hit number two on the American Billboard 200 chart.
However, the album [C#] was later criticized for its length [D] and overproduction.
The Britpop movement soon began [A] to decline.
As a result, Oasis decided to stay out of the spotlight for a while following the Be Here Now tour.
In 1999, [E] Arthur's and [A] McGuigan left the band.
The next year, Oasis released Standing on the Shoulder of Giants on their own label, Big Brother.
[D]
[F] [G] [A] The album was influenced by psychedelic rock and was another [D] number one in the UK.
However, [F] it received lukewarm reviews.
[G] After a world tour, [A] they came out with their first live CD, Familiar to Millions.
Up next was [Em] 2002's Heathen Chemistry, which was the first [G] Oasis album to feature Gem Archer on guitar and [D] Andy Bell on bass.
[A]
[Em] [G] It marked a return to a more basic rock sound and [Em] contained writing contributions from the other members for the first time.
[G] During the world tour that followed, [E] several of the band's members [Am] were involved in a car accident and later [F] others were arrested after a nightclub altercation.

Oasis released [B] their next record, Don't Believe the [E] Truth, in [Dm] 2005.
[Am] [Dm]
[Am] This was their first [Am] with Zac Starkey on drums after [F] Alan White's departure the year before.
This critical success continued [G] the collaborative approach of the previous effort [E] and was supported by a huge world tour.
That concert series was later documented in [B] the rockumentary movie, Lord [A] Don't Slow Me Down.
Following the 2006 Best Of compilation Stop the Clocks, the band released Dig Out Your Soul in 2008.
[F#m] The album topped the UK charts and peaked at number five in the [D] US.
[F#] [D]
[Bm] [F#m] With drummer Chris Sherrick replacing Starkey, Oasis then [Bm] began promoting the record with a tour that was [F#m] meant to last over a year.
[F#m] However, it was cut short when an argument [D] between the Gallaghers [Bm] ultimately resulted in Noel quitting the [F#m] band.
After the breakup, the brothers went their separate ways [B] musically.
Liam Gallagher, along with Archer, Bell, Sherrick and new recruit Jeff Wooten on bass formed the band BDI.
They released their first album, Different Gear Still Speeding, in [D] 2011.
[E] [F#m]
[D] [E] [F#m] [G#m] Later that same year, Noel [B] Gallagher released his debut, Noel Gallagher's [D#] High Flying Birds.

Despite the [G#m] Gallagher brothers' frequent [B] feuding, Oasis [E] became one of the United Kingdom's most [B] popular exports in the 1990s and [D] helped bring Britpop into the [Fm] mainstream.
