She knows her job, she knows her life, she knows she needs it, she knows she's worth [B] her life.
Hi, we're The Horrors.
This is [Ab] Josh and I'm Tom and this is called What's in My Bag.
[E] And you have Rhys and Farris.
And the first thing I've found [Am] is the wooden [Em] ships.
I [A] saw them play about a month ago in London and the guitarist was wearing an Amoeba T-shirt, funny enough.
And I just thought it was great, one of the best new bands [Bb] I've heard in a long [Dm] time.
One of two David [Am] Axelrod LPs I got, it's Songs of Experience.
We have about one each.
[D] This one's about William Blake [Dm] and this one just seems to be about him.
It's kind of got the same kind of name.
It's got a sexy back shot.
Yeah, it has [D] got a sexy back shot.
But David Axelrod is just one of those people that I've wanted to listen to for a while
but I've only ever been able to find bits and pieces.
[Db] It's Walter Carlos doing switched on versions of various composers
and I guess most people who know his name know that he did the Clockwork Orange soundtrack.
Electronic music compilation I suppose of young electronic composers came out in the early 60s
and it's actually a series of them.
This has got the Steve Reich track come out.
It's like a mad kind of tape vocal [E] kind of montage.
Dorothy [Db] Ashby, Afro Harping.
Dorothy [Am] Ashby playing a psychedelic harp along with some [C] great backing music.
It's got a really amazing version of
where is it?
[E]
Oh, it hasn't got it.
[Gb] Oh, what?
[Em] Oh, you picked up the wrong one.
I picked [B] up the wrong one.
I've got a great version of her doing the windmills of Your Mind.
But I know Come Live With Me is great and Soul Vibrations is amazing
[B] so I'm looking forward to hearing that.
Anything that Richard Evans produced just [C] generally is amazing.
[Gm] Billy Preston, Arranged by Sly Stone.
[D] Mad, psychedelic, [G] organ, funk.
[Gm]
Deranged [C] sounds of both those artists.
To dispel the [G] myth that horrors hate all modern music
I got the new On record [B] which I haven't heard but I bet it's amazing.
It's rough as fuck.
It will be rough as fuck.
They're having loads of fun.
They're like making complete goo.
I imagine the bass has made all their eardrums explode.
[F] Marvelous.
Marvelous eardrums.
[E] Seven inch by the middle class.
Who's Mike Patton's?
He plays no more.
Is that right?
Yeah.
Yeah, he plays bass.
[Eb] I found a few [Ab] Soul 7s.
This is [B] a track called [Am] Love Makes the World Go Round by [Eb] Dion Jackson.
Young Hot Unlimited, [Bb] Soulful Struck, which is
I think they were like Ramsey Lewis's backing group originally.
This is a [Eb] piano instrumental version of Am I the Same Girl
which was by [Dm] Barbara Aplin and a few other people.
But just a really great bright piano version of them.
[Bb] Perfect for a sunny afternoon.
[E] I really love the Jesus Lizard.
I don't have shot so I got it because [Gb] it's got my favourite track on it
which is Thumbscrews.
It's a shot record by Jesus [G] Lizard.
I mainly [G] got it because it's got thumbscrews on it.
When we were playing
Was it Primavera or Benfica Sing?
Primavera.
[Ab] Yeah, we just arrived on [G] site and we heard them sound checking.
Me and Josh ran across [F] and there was no one else there.
They were just playing [Gb] Thumbscrews.
[Bb] He did literally open the van door and then just both run
[Db] straight to the stage to watch them do it.
Yeah, it's like a DVD extra or something [C] except you're actually there.
I'm going to go for this one, The Sound [Eb] of Wonder.
It's a Lollywood compilation by the good chaps [G] at Finders Keepers.
So it's bound to be good.
But Lollywood is Bollywood's [G] Pakistani little sister.
Apparently it's amazing [Db] slices of electronic pop.
[Eb] Did you get that Shirelles one?
[Eb] I did get Shirelles and Faris recommended me a couple of girl group tracks
that I didn't know.
[Cm] The Girlfriend.
[Ab] [G]
Jimmy Boy, yeah.
[F] That's one of my favourite.
And the Shirelles one.
I know [Ab] the Shirelles but I don't know what [F] side it is.
No, that Don't Go Home My Little [Eb] Darling.
For [Ab] some reason it's never on [Cm] any of their best offs
and it's a really great dance [C] track.
I got a Blind Lemon Jefferson LP which Tom has hilariously pointed out
over 99% of the songs on it end with blues.
Carina [G] blues, Long Lonesome blues, Jack O' Diamonds blues,
Chuck House [Eb] blues, [Ab] Old Rounders blues, [Bb] Stocking Feet blues.
[G] Stocking Feet blues, very common blues.
I've got this Psychic TV one which [Gb] I don't know,
I [G]
got really obsessed with Psychic TV fairly recently
and mainly for their videos.
I See Water, Godstar, they're all, [C] as I know,
Genesis P [Gb].O.R.G.'s obsession with Brian Jones and stuff.
[C] I'm kind of [G]
getting fairly obsessed with him [Db] myself.
Madlib, Beat Conductor, Volume [G] 4.
Bang!
Woo-hoo!
[A] We love Madlib, he's great.
[G] I get everything that he [Ab] does.
[N] Another nice little thing I found was this
Ten Little Indians by The Yardbirds.
And [Gb] there's an album that they did with Jimmy Page
that only came out in America.
It's called Little [Eb] Games I think.
Anyway, this is one of those tracks.
[B] It's definitely their most [Db] psychedelic record.
But it's almost, [E] it's them knowing that [Db] they're psychedelic
where all of their early stuff is kind of on its way there
and it just feels like they don't quite know that's how it sounds.
It's [Em] them indulging themselves in [Ab] the psychedelia
rather than kind of [Em]
creating it.
[Ab] But you can't get it in England on a single.
[Am] This Son LP, which I haven't actually heard,
it's a [Bb] live one that they recorded in a cathedral.
And I saw them [Gb] live, [Am] they hung their guitars up on magnets
and then just left them sort of feeding back into each other.
Which was [C] amazing.
[Ab] [B] Cheers.
Thank you Amoeba.
This has been really fun.
