The Kingdom is another song where I help out Ivor on the vocals and we sing the song together,
which is always nice.
And it's just a really kind of chilled out, sort of bit more harmonically beautiful version
of the song I guess.
And it's really great, I really love the lyrics, I think it's really, it's quite poignant.
A lot of his lyrics are quite deep, so it's nice to sing lyrics that you can connect with
while you're singing beautiful melody at the same time.
I played 12 string on Kingdom.
First time I've ever picked up a 12 string and played it in my life was at rehearsal.
And we were rehearsing it because Giddy broke his wrist and suddenly I found myself on guitar.
I was probably never going to play it at all, I think I was going to take the song off.
And we kind of worked out this acoustic version over a couple of days.
And it's a gorgeous, gorgeous song, I think.
I think the way he wrote that melody is very Ivor, and the way he goes from sort of one
chord progression to the next is very Ivor.
So it was really nice to be able to play it.
And Michael does a great job with his bit of it.
Kingdom is one of those ones which, yeah, look, it's just, I'm glad that it's made it
into the set.
I know it's been a personal favourite of one of the guys in the crew.
And it's nice that we have this sort of thing that's come in.
I had never played Kingdom for 25 years and it's only been in the last couple of years.
So it's a great addition, it's a really well written song.
It's great to play it on the acoustic guitar and I love the moment when the three acoustic
guitars all come together, particularly with the 12 string, with the main 12 string in the middle.
It all sounds big and lush and lovely.
It's a very simple part, I never play more than two notes at once in Kingdom, which is
actually pretty much Ivor's method on a lot of his songs as well.
But yeah, and a bit of egg shaker.
Now, funnily enough, playing that egg shaker is one of the hardest things that I have to
do all night.
And I'd say, you know, people always want to go, oh, I could play tambourine.
I say, no, you couldn't.
It's actually really hard to play percussion well and consistently.
So when I'm playing that egg shaker, if they show me, they probably won't even show me
in the footage, to be honest.
But if they do show me, you might notice there's a [Am] look of intense concentration on my face
and it's because of the egg shaker.
