Start Jamming...
[N]
[G] London-based band headed up by two teenage brothers changed its name from
the Ravens to the Kinks.
[D#] [C] 30 albums [Dm] later Dave and Ray Davies are still [G] going
strong with a new album out [A#] and [F] another Kinks tour of North America.
[G] They stopped
in to talk with [Dm] CNN's Mark Shearer.
People never know what to expect.
[E]
[A] [D]
[E] The Kinks of course were the ones who were gender-bending back in [C#] 1970 with
Lola but these days what you can [D#] expect is for Ray and Dave Davies to continue
[F#] releasing albums, [A] playing [C#] in concert and [A] intriguing their fans.
[G] I can see it in the audience, they're listening to us and they'll say something really stupid [A] [A#] in the song.
I can see [F] them looking at one [A] another saying, is he kidding us?
The Kinks may be kidding when they play up their supposed [G] sibling rivalry in a song from their new album Phobia.
[Em] Hey Dre, [A] hey Dre, [C] is it [D] only them that keeps us [Em] together?
Yes there's always rivalry, [F] tension between [E] people who are related [A#] but that
that sometimes helps [F] music.
[F#] Of course it [E] wouldn't be so bad [D#] if sometimes we
get a word in edgewise.
No [C#] it's not you know it's not always that bad really.
[C] I think what happened [C#] it's a cheap, [A#] sorry [F#] excuse the word, cheap, it's [C#] an easy shot to get [F] press and
publicity with [G] and let's face it people love that.
They love to read about
[F#] conflict, they love to read you know what what's going on [F]
inside and inside of information.
Return to [B] Waterloo, a short film [D#] from 1984 written and directed by Ray Davies
reminds us that with Arthur [C] and Preservation Act the Kinks held their own
in the rock opera field with The Who.
[D] Davies thinks Tommy [Dm] doesn't belong on
Broadway.
[C] I'm not saying [G] Tommy has transferred all the stuff I wrote [D#] before
Tommy should be naturally go to Broadway because the stuff I was writing was more
[C] radical.
[G]
[C] If [G]
the road goes on forever it'll be because [C] the Kinks have never
gone too fast or [G] too slow.
We've always [F#] been on the middle, we've [A] never been
hugely successful or failing band and the [F#m] music is also still [Em] vibrant and it's still fun.
And people never know what to expect from the Kinks.
