[A] [E] [A] [E]
[A] [E] [D] [A]
[N] This is a really fun and really easy song to play.
Early early Rolling Stones, 1965, this is of course the last time.
It was really a hit single, matter of fact their third number one hit single,
and it was of course backed with some of their mellower [G] tunes.
[Em] [B] But we are going to take a look at The Last Time,
and there's some really neat things going on on the guitar,
and again some pretty basic things.
It uses a couple of cool little [F#m] blues licks,
[Em]
[E] and some little partial chords, [D] [A] a three chord progression.
First thing I encourage you to do [Gm] is go listen to it,
and [F#] figure out the progression.
Just use those three chords, [N] and it's kind of in an unusual mode,
so it's not necessarily just in the major mode.
But we'll talk about that.
Now we'll also talk about a way of playing the lick,
this is a little bit more [G] complicated, but playing the [Dm] opening lick.
It was played by Brian Jones, so Brian was playing this,
[A] [E] and then Keith came in with just strumming these chords
that you probably already got figured out.
But we can kind of do a hybrid thing using hybrid picking,
[A]
[E] and get that to come out, make it kind of a solo guitar [N] thing.
So anyway, that's all the stuff we're going to take a look at here in The Last Time.
First we'll just talk about the chords,
so by the time you get there you should probably already know
what the chords are, and what mode it's in.
But that's where we're going next.
So short little lesson on a pretty fun song to play, The Last Time.
Well that was a little bit of a lesson that I put together
on The Rolling Stones, The Last Time, of course.
And as the lesson, as it sort of progressed,
I hadn't really planned on this, but it got into
just how you could do the whole thing as a solo version.
And this is available now as part of the Target program,
so I really encourage you to come check it out at Totally Guitars.
[E] What we do is incorporate the chord progression [A] [E] with the lick,
[A]
and a little higher guitar part when it gets into the chorus,
[D]
[A] [E]
[A] [E] [A]
and then even [E] a bit of lead.
[D] [A] [G]
[E] [A]
[E]
[G] Anyway, you get the idea.
So the lesson kind of got out of control,
and I just decided that it would [F#] make a good solo song,
which makes it a lot harder than doing [Em] it as two separate guitar parts.
[A] But we've got three simple chords in the Mixolydian [E] mode,
all of which gets addressed in the lesson.
[N] A lot of other Rolling Stones lessons over at Totally Guitars,
again in the Target program.
A lot of, actually even a couple of them are available as part of the free stuff,
because there's a lot of those, 50 or 60 complete free lessons as well.
But I really encourage you to check out the Target program,
and especially if you like Rolling Stones tunes,
all of a sudden I'm on a Rolling Stones kick.
A whole bunch of their songs are showing up now.
