I drove out to the first lighthouse that I ever seen in my life and sat on a sand dune
and looked on a gloomy day at a lighthouse and I compared it with the words that were
written on that old piece of toilet paper and knew that I didn't know what I was writing about.
The tears filled my eyes and I knew that God had orchestrated something bigger than me.
Since that time I've written a lot of songs that have been big in gospel music, but every
time I would have gotten puffed up and said, man, I did that, God reminded me that I was
just a kid that had never laid eyes on a lighthouse when I wrote that song.
And so how could I ever get the glory?
I'd like to just in retro sing a simple [G] version.
[D]
[G] [D]
[G] [D] There's a lighthouse [F#m] [D]
on a hillside [G] and it overlooks [D]
life's [Em] sea.
[D] When [F#m] I'm tossed, [Bm] Lord, it [D] sends out a [E] light.
It's a light [A] that I might [Bm] see [C#] [D] and the [A] light that shines [D] in the darkness now, [G] it will safely
[A] lead [E] me home.
Oh, [D] but I know [F#m] if it wasn't for [D] that old lighthouse, [C#] I know my ship would sail [D] no more.
Can [D] you say amen?
Now, everybody, [F#m] everybody [D] that lives around us, all [C] around us, [G] they say, why don't you
go on and [D] tear that old lighthouse down?
We all know the big [F#m] ships, the important [D] folks, and none of them sail by this way anymore.
[E]
I just can't see no use [A] in that old thing standing around.
Yeah, [D] but then my [A] mind goes back [D] to that stormy night.
[G] It was just in time, just [E] in time.
Thank God I saw the light.
[D] Don't you know [A] it was the light [Bm] from that old lighthouse.
[A] [Bm] Know something [A] else?
That old thing still stands up there [D] on a hill.
[Em] I [D] thank God [A] for [D] my old lighthouse.
[F#] Sing it with [D] me.
[G] I owe my life.
[D] Wave your hand in heaven if you mean it.
For Jesus [A] is [D] the lighthouse, [E] and from the rocks [A] of sin, He [D] has shown [A] His light [D] around
all around me.
[G]
Now I can clearly [D] see [D] if it was.
[A] If you're committed to [D] be a lighthouse tonight or [Bm] today, I want you [A] to sing it and lift the
roof off of [G] this place [A] one more [D] time.
Would you do it?
Here we go.
[A] I [D] thank God [A] for [D] my old lighthouse.
I [G] ask you, Lord, my life [D] to be.
For Jesus [A] is [D] the lighthouse, [A] and [E] from the rocks [A] of sin, He [D] has shown [A] His light [D] around
all around me.
[G]

[A] [D] Thank [A] [D] you, Lord.
[A] Thank you for being our lighthouse.
[D] We're going to keep shining for you.
