[Gm]
High upon the southern downs, [D] through field and over stile,
[Gm] I walked to old Thunder's Barrow hill, [D] where I stopped to rest a while.
Then [Eb] I saw a mighty hammer, [Gm] with a dragon in full sail.
[Eb] That's when I heard a voice tell [G] his [D] tale.
[Gm] And so we've reached the final song, [D] Thunder's Barrow Hill.
Now, me and Kerry, we [Gm] did our genetic [D] testing for the National Geographic,
and for me, on my mum's side, [Eb]
we are very much centred,
her side of the family is very much centred [Gm] around Bohemia, the Czech Republic, Ukraine, that kind of thing.
That's where we stem from, and we've [Eb] found out now that the name also stems from there.
My dad's line, [D] on the other hand, when it looked, they show it in arrows.
It was like, I'm [Gm] the first out of Africa, I'm first into Europe, I'm there, whack.
Britain, [Eb] Denmark.
And apparently my dad's gene [F] mutations are [Gm] the same of people who were the first people,
they arrived in Europe before farming, they were the hunter [Eb]-gatherers.
So my dad's line has been living here [F] for thousands of years.
In fact, they may have been here already on the building of [Gm] those stone circles and barrows.
They were already here.
But also he's got a big, big red lump over Denmark.
Which got me thinking, I'm a druid, [Dm] I follow a [G] path [D] where I honour gods [Gm] of the Iron Age, of Iron Age Britain, Celtic [D] deities.
So I know, I know that [Eb] I have a side of my genetics that would have once [Gm] uttered the words Odin, Thor, [Eb] Freya.
And those two [D] peoples, if you look back, history [Gm] suggests that they never really got on.
Although, obviously, I have to say, [Eb] looking at my dad's DNA, not only did they get on,
but they [F] got it on too, because I have indigenous Britain [Gm] and Dane in my DNA.
And [D] so I thought, I [Gm] need to honour that part of [Eb] me and my history and my bloodline that goes back [F] to those who honoured those gods.
[Gm] Now, about 40 minutes walk from my house, up on the downs, [G] the south downs in Sussex, is a hillfort [Gm] called Thundersbarrow Hill.
And it's called Thundersbarrow Hill [D] because just beside Thundersbarrow, just beside the [Gm] hillfort, is Thundersbarrow, an old, [D] long barrow.
And I took [Eb] Oscar up there quite often during the summer.
[Gm] And I just sat there and I just asked to be guided on a [Eb] song.
And Thundersbarrow Hill are the words [Dm] that came out through that guidance.
Anything named Thundersbarrow, thunder [D] this, thunder [Gm] that, has got to have its roots in the god [Eb] Thor.
And so that is Thor's Hill, here in [F] Sussex, in the land of the South Saxons.
You can't get much [Gm] more wodan than that.
So, I know this is my first outing [Eb] into the northern tradition, into Odinism, [F] with my songs.
If you follow that path, [Gm] I hope you [C] feel I've done you [Gm] honour, because that's what it's meant behind this song.
It's an honouring of the gods of those people.
And, yeah.
