[E] [A] [D]
[B] [Am] 38 years after their first album, [D] the Moody Blues seem to be [Am] returning to their roots with [D] their latest live recording.
[A]
[D] [G]
Live [A] at the Greek [D] Theatre, which is just [Am] coming [Bm] out now, DVD, [Eb] which we're really [B] excited about.
[E] [A] It's the first [B] DVD we've done for a long time without, the first DVD done actually without an orchestra.
First live album we've done since 1969 without an orchestra because the two previous things have been for PBS.
[Em]
[D] Since the beginning, [Bm] [E] the Moody Blues have interjected a [Em] classical sound into their [D] rock and roll music,
a trademark [Bm] that has carried them [Em] through almost four decades.
[D] Our very first album [Em] was made with [D] us playing our own set of songs without any orchestra.
[Em] [D]
[Em]
[D] But then an orchestra doing [C] our themes in between, and that's where [G] we became known for that kind of style.
[F]
[E] [Em] [A] And then when we first started really just doing all of our own songs,
we started off with using a keyboard instrument called the Mellotron that had orchestral sounds on it.
And so that was where we got that kind of character and colour into [G] our sound.
And it is a kind of trademark that we have.
And none of us ever had any kind of classical training, but it worked, those kind of arrangements worked with our [D] songs.
[G] Regardless of their lack of classical training, the Moody [Dm] Blues would go on to play with some of the greatest [G] orchestras in the world.
[C]
John Lodge [D] credits the band's knowledge [A] of the classics to being exposed to orchestral music at [D] a very early [Dm] age.
You know, Graham and I were born in Birmingham, and Birmingham, England [G] has got one of the greatest orchestras in the world,
the [E] City of Birmingham Symphony [G] Orchestra.
And probably when [C] we were growing up [G] at school, every afternoon there would be a choir period,
and they used to [E] play some of the CBSO music to us on, you know, vinyl records.
And so we'd probably sit down and listen, although we weren't probably taking any notice of listening to the [B] orchestras and the [Em] classical [Am] music,
it was obviously going into the psyche [B] when it came out.
It [Em] came out as rock and roll and the Moody Blues.
[D]
[C] [Em]
Still playing [D] all these years to packed concert halls, today the Moody Blues seem to be [E] broadening their audience base.
[G]
[C] The young people that have discovered [Em] this, [G] they've played their music in their [C] room and then their parents have said,
oh, I used to like the Moody Blues, [Em] and they've kind of rediscovered the Moody Blues [G] all over again.
[C] Whether producing new DVDs, with or without an orchestra, [Em] the sound remains classic.
[G] And just with anything [C] classic, their music never goes out of style.
[G] [Am]
[G] We know that the Moody's music means a lot to a lot of people.
I [Am] can't see any reason to stop, [Em] really.
We've never been part of [C] a kind of band or a fashion.
[Em] Teaching that [G] brave heart it seems, [C] is bound to fly, a world of dreams.
[Em] It brings enjoyment, [G] comfort, exhilaration [C] for generations to come.
And for [G] me, that will be it.
Oh, [Am] won't you tell me again, [G] oh, [F] can you feel it?
[G] Oh, [Am] won't you tell me again, [Em] tonight, [C]
[Em] tonight.
[C]
[D] Cloud on [Am] the ocean, [D] amongst
[Bm] so many [E]
songs, [Am] we must rise above.
Can [F] you hear the spirit calling, [A] as it's carried across the [N] waves?
