North Carolina was We Shall All Be Healed, but I wrote that in Iowa.
[E] And thank you.
But then after we moved here, I [D] wasn't quite sure [Em] what we were going to do in our original contract with 480 was for three records.
And I sort of, because I'm me and I'm kind of defeatist and I have a thing about worrying that nobody actually likes me and that somebody, this will all be taken away, [Am] you know.
[Em] I was like, well, we're going to get the third album of the contract and then you have to go back to the nursing business, right?
[Ab]
So that's why I sort of like opened [Gm] up and said, well, I'm going to [E] tell a story that is true for the third record, [N] because it'll probably be the last Mountain Deer's record that ever gets made was the thinking in my mind.
[E] And [Ab] I started writing these songs that became the [D] Sunset Tree.
[E] And one of them, we didn't get a studio version I was happy with, [A] but I think it's kind [D] of one of the [G] truer numbers [E] of the bunch that became the Sunset Tree.
Because it's about how if you are [G] in a situation [E] that you cannot [Ab] get out of, and a lot of people say, well, I can't get out.
But if you [G] are 16, you can't get out.
[E] You can't leave.
You can [A] try.
[Ab] They bring you back.
And it sucks [E] worse.
So this is a song about [D] wanting someone to come and help you [Bm] with your awesome [A] plans.
It's called the Daily Aliens.
[D] [E] I [A]
will wake [Em] up at
[E] 6am.
[A] [D]
[E] I will find [D] my way [E] to the front door like a [A] soldier crawling through the [D] smoking party.
[Em] [G] Smoldering bodies at my [A] feet.
[D] I'd love to stick around, but I've got [E]
someone to meet [G] and I will [A] put my best foot [D] forward.
[E] [A] And I'll thank God I made [D] it out of there [E] [A] on the day [D]
when [E] my heels end.
[A]
I will look out [D] upon the day [E] through my dark [A] sunglasses.
[D]
[E] [A] And I will walk out onto [D] the lawn in my [E] nice white [A] tuxedo jacket and take [D] in the scene.
[E] [A] The house behind me and the people in it.
[D] They'll all go on Blackstein in just [E] a minute.
There's [A] gonna be a redefining of [D] some borders.
[Em] [A] [E] And I will receive my [G] orders [E] on the [A] day [D]
when my [E] heels [G] end.
[A]
[E] [Gb] [Bm] The rooftops and the [A]
[Em] sidewalks [Gb] will [G] all [A] melt like plastic.
[G] [Gb] But oh, friends, [A] old friends, dear friends, [D] I'm gonna [E] look fantastic.
[A] There won't be any reason left [D] in my [B] heart.
Because there [A] won't be any people [D] left to cry for.
[G] [E]
[A] My memory's gonna vaporize [Dm] itself.
[E] But my [A] Italian shoes, well, they will [D] be to die for.
[E] [Gm] I believe I [A] can fly.
Why [D] don't you look up at [Em] me and wave [E] goodbye?
[Em] [A]
[D] When [E] my new friends [A] come.
[D] [E] When my new [A] friends come.
[D] When my [E] new [A] friends come.
