[C] [G] The first lick, or the first combination of licks in the A part is this.
[D] [E] [D] [G]
That can be broken down into four separate little licks.
The first one is this.
This may, should be familiar to a lot of you.
You're going to put your middle finger on the
10th fret of the second string, your index finger on the 9th fret of the first string,
and you're going to do a forward roll of 5-2-1-5.
The second lick sounds like [D] this.
You want to make a little bar chord over the first and second strings at the 7th fret
with your index finger, and the roll you're going to play is 2-5-1-2.
So let's go back and put those first two licks together.
[G]
[D] The second lick sounds like this.
[Em]
You're still holding down your little two-finger bar chord from the lick before it.
You're going to add your ring finger on the 9th fret of the third string,
and you're going to play this.
[D] It starts with [E] the third string picked with your thumb,
[G] second, fifth, and [E] then the third string picked with your index finger.
[D] Now the last lick in this combination is just an [G] open backward roll.
1-2-3-1.
So let's put all four of those licks together.
[G] [D] [E]
[F#] [G]
Now the next phrase sounds like [D] this.
[C] [A]
[G] [B] It starts out with a C lick.
[C] You're going to put your C chord down, and you're going to play this roll.
It's a hammer-on [E] to the second fret of the fourth string,
pick with your thumb, hammer-on with your middle finger, and you're [D] going to follow it by
[C] It's a square roll of 2-3-1.
So it's 4-2-3-1.
And then the last note in the roll is an open fourth string.
Now the next lick [F] is a little unusual.
It's kind of difficult to do it this way.
I'm going to show you an alternate way after this, but this is the melodic way to play it.
You're going to put your index finger on the second fret of the third string,
and your little finger, you're going to stretch out here to the fifth fret of the fourth string,
and you're [G] going to play this roll.
[B]
What I'm doing with [G] my right hand is playing 4 [B]-3-2 [A]-4-3 [B]-2 [A]-3.
And for this, you have to bring your middle finger in to play the second string to keep the roll.
So your thumb is going to play the fourth string,
[G] your index finger [A] is going to pick the third string,
and your [D] middle finger is going to pick [B] the second string.
So the [D] lick sounds like this.
[Em] As I said [G] before, it's 4-3-2-4-3-2.
Then it ends on the third string, which I pick with my thumb.
[B] [Em]
