[Cm] The last of the Christmas shows was the first gig I ever went to.
[A] They're the greatest band that ever existed.
You know, I know people say The Clash is [N] the only band that mattered, but for me, the Bad
Brains are that band.
That moment, that first 30 seconds that I saw them, _ my life just went like that, instantly.
Never the same. _
_ _ _ _ _ _ That would have to be A7.
I really learned how to play music in A7.
The sense of community, because it was so small at that time.
Yeah, A7. _ _ _ _ _ _
_ Back when I first started coming around, _ everybody each had such a unique style.
John Watson was as graceful as a ballerina.
Diego [Db] would run off the stage at CBs with spurs on his MC boots and make it almost to the soundboard.
[Eb] Jimmy had his [C] hands behind his back, Stigma had his style.
Everybody had their own style. _ _
But I'd have to say John Watson. _
_ _ _ _ _ _ The show I missed that I wish I would have saw was the Bad Brains reunion [Cm] shows at Jane
Street Rock Hotel.
[Ab] I was _ _ [N] a runaway kid and I had gotten in trouble and I was in a group home, so I missed those
shows and those are the ones I really regret missing. _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ Well, the first two are easy.
Mackie and Earl.
_ Third, I'd have to go with Chuck Biscuits.
The stuff Chuck did on those demos with Flag _ and any of the live footage you see him with
with Circle Jerks, it's just next level. _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ Yeah, I lived in squats.
There was lots of punk rock crash pads, lots of squatting.
_ You know, it was a different [D] time down here.
It was a different time in I think all of our lives.
And you know, 14 year old kid, I could do that.
I could [Ab] sleep in an abandoned building because I just lived [E] for the next day, hanging out,
going to the next gig.
But you know, now as a 40 something year old man, [Gb] I'm like, I'd never.
[Gbm] _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _
Doc [Abm] is number one.
Doc has always been my favorite guitar [E] player.
I don't think there's a [N] more original guitar player alive on the planet. _ _
Bubba Dupree from Void.
You _ know, I [Ab] remember seeing Void at Jane Street Rock Hotel _ and it was Void and [Ab] Scream.
And I was [Gm] on certain hallucinogenics [C] and [C] Bubba Dupree, like I melted watching [Gb] him play.
I mean, he was just so out there.
And then [C] Greg Ginn from Black Flag. _ _
_ _ _ _ _ You [E] know, I have a new band called [F] Fireburn.
It's [Db] me, Israel Joseph, I who [Eb] sang on the Bad Brains Rise record.
Todd Jones from, [Gb] he was in Carry On, [Eb] Terror, and he plays in Nails now.
[Ab] And we got this young kid, Nick Townsend, playing drums.
He's a [Cm] monster.
Our [Eb] EP just came out [C] and we're playing our first New York show today here at the Ray B's Tribute. _ _ _ _ _ _ _
I really love Fury from California.
[Ebm] _ _
[Eb] There's a band called Skullcrack from California that's happening right now.
[Gb] I mean, most of the stuff I'm up [Bb] on is, I [Ab] live in LA, so it's most of the local bands
in LA, the younger [B] kids.
_ _ And then a lot [Bb] of the UK stuff that's [Abm] happening right now.
[Ebm] Arms Race, _ Violent Reaction, even though they're not together anymore, I'm a big fan [Eb] of.
There's a band, Deadbeat LA, that are awesome.
I mean, [Ab] there's a lot.
There's a lot of good new bands out there.
[Gb] And _ [Eb] I'm [F] just glad, [Eb] I never would have thought in my [E] wildest imagination, 35 years [C] later,
I'd be still going to see hardcore [Ab] bands and checking out new bands and still [Eb] getting blown
away by new bands. _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ [B]
