The Pentatonic Scale Exercise that will Inspire you chords
Start Jamming...
I'm just going to show you a little minor pentatonic sequence that may spark a new idea
for you, get you out of a rut.
I'm going to take the straight pentatonic, not even the blues scale, just to show you
a little pattern.
So we've got the A minor pentatonic,
[A] [E]
and we're going to go like [Cm] this.
[D]
[E] [Am]
[E] [Cm] So we're going to do two notes there, so that's the eighth fret on the high E, then down the scale.
[Gm]
[Cm]
[Am] And the other way you can do it is a double pick, then a pull-off.
[Bb] [Am]
That way you're going to be able to do it faster.
[Em]
[E] And just keep in mind, you know, you're not going to want to just go through that whole
thing in a solo, but you can get new licks out of little sequences like this.
So we're [C] going to do
Pa pa, pa [Am] pa, pull [Em]-off, pick that.
So that's the first, you know, move or whatever.
[E] [Em] [E]
Okay?
Guess what?
Same thing from the next note down.
So we're going to double up now on the root, that fifth fret of [Am] the high E.
Can't pull that off because we're going to go down to here.
So we've got
[Cm] [Em] But we're going to pull that one off.
So [Am] we're pulling off from the eight to the five on the B.
Double, [E] pull-off on the B from eight to five.
Put those two [Cm] together.
[Em] [Am] [Cm]
[Am] [Em]
Slow [Am] again.
[E]
[Em] Now what I recommend, the quickest way [B] to get that whole thing, the [F] others that I'm
going to show you, is to just master one at a time.
Don't go ahead, you know, [Em] get this down.
[Am] [E]
[Cm] The sequence continues the exact same way through that scale.
So you've got
[D] So that third [E] one, very similar to what we did on the first one.
We're going to go [Em] double, pull-off.
[E] [Cm] Three notes with two picks.
[E] And boom, seventh fret on the G.
[Bb] So you put those three [Cm] together, [E] [Cm]
[D] [E] then double on the B.
[D] [Cm] Seventh on the G, pull-off to five on the G.
Hopefully you get where we're going.
[E]
[Bb] Double on the G, [Cm] pull-off, [A] then to [D] the D.
[Am]
[E] [Gm] [D] [A]
[Cm] Double here, [A] [Gm] and then a [D] pull-off.
[Gm] [Cm] [Gm]
[A] Double there, [Gm] pull-off [E]
to there.
[A] [Bb] Double [G] there, [Gm] pull-off there.
[E]
[C] [D] [Am] [E]
Okay, all the way through, [Cm] really slow.
[Em] [E]
[Cm]
[Bb] [Am]
[Gm] [Em] [Gm]
[E] [D]
[Am] [E]
Okay, now watch.
If I just try and improvise some licks with elements of that, that's kind of the idea.
[Cm]
[Ab] See that?
So I did [Gm] a
and [Em] then just right back.
One little piece of that sequence.
[Cm]
[E] [E]
[D] [E]
[Em]
[Cm]
[Em]
[D]
[Em] [Am] [E]
[Am] [Cm]
[E] [Gb] [Cm]
[E] [F] Can do it with the other scales too, not the pentatonic.
But we're focused right now on that pentatonic.
So see what you can add into your arsenal.
[E]
[Am]
[Bb] All right, that was it.
Hope you enjoyed it.
