[Em]
[D] [C]
[Em] We sat at my house for [D] five days or so, which [C] was really magical.
I mean, it was just the three of us, me [Em] and Barry and Kenny Wayne.
That was one of the best times I've had in my music career.
Three [D] of us really, you know, [B] respected and dug each other and [Em] evolved into
We were actually
We had a few rehearsals at Steven's studio.
[D] Fine by guitar, [C] the players in the [Em] band
And then they decided that we might want to do [C] another, like, super [G] session record.
Turns out Barry and I [C] missed each other by a day [Am] on the original super session.
Getting two or three [G] guys together, musicians and singers and [Gb] songwriters,
and do another record with that concept [C] in mind.
And we [Db] started looking around [E] for who would be the third one, guitar [Em] players.
My idea was Kenny Wayne Shepard.
I have known Kenny Wayne forever, like, from when he was a kid.
[D]
[Em] Well, family roots are [C] only about 20 miles apart.
There's still a family region being from Ruston, Louisiana.
He's from Shreveport.
[D] So we share the swamp.
[F]
Deep as the bottom of the ocean, pure as a newborn baby,
I'll shine a sun above, that's some pretty good love.
Steven and I go back almost [Db] 10 years.
I [F] got contacted about [Ab] doing a record with him.
The two of us looked at each other and thought, why didn't we think of this sooner?
Steven and I and Barry got together, started writing some songs.
It was a collaboration [C] between all of [F] us.
When I [Eb] first started working with Steven, you know, his guitar playing just blew my mind.
Kenny Wayne and Steven could bounce off each other and groove together.
With that in mind, the [Eb] concept left a lot of room [F] for the playing.
Then it became, let's write some songs and see what happens.
And then we wrote six songs in a matter of a few days and [Bb] found a few cover songs.
What was originally a cool idea turned into something very [Ab] special.
We'll bring my [F] drummer in and we'll bring Steven's bass player in.
And then there's familiarity and comfort [Cm] level.
[C] Kevin and Christopher just [Bb] fit together in Canyon [Cm] Glove.
[A]
[F] [Bb] I thought that first note I just made up was [A] really funny.
It was.
[C] [Ab]
[Db] [Fm] [Bb] That sounded good.
[F] That sounded right on the money, [Cm] baby.
We didn't want to spend more than [Fm] two or three takes on any one song because it loses its thing.
[D] We have kept to that.
We [Fm] have cut this in seven days.
[Dm] Kenny Wayne [F] and I are great followers of the original [Bb] Delta Blues and Old Bluesmen.
Steven and I have rock backgrounds as well, [C] but the blues is the fabric [Fm] that holds this all together.
[D] Talk to my bae, how you doing?
Baby, [F] come on home, I [G] can't hold out.
We [E] had a really successful writing and spiritual thing together [D] and we hit it right off.
[A] We stayed the same, but [G] then we shrunk it up and said, [E] oh, make it count.
[Em] [A] That solo was bad ass.
It really was.
[E] Yeah, amazing.
That's [B] why you're Steven Stills and we are not.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha!
[G]
[D] [C] [Em]
[G] [D] [C] Between Steven and Barry and I, I think the [A] nucleus of this group, I don't think it could be any better.
[E] [N]
