Hi and welcome to DrMix!
Today I will show you the Roland SH-101.
This is another piece of vintage gear.
It's so small but it sounds so great.
You will love it!
Coming up!
[Dm]
[A] [D]
So this one is a real [Ab] gem!
Look at it!
It's all plastic, it's very light, it's very small,
but it has a very interesting sound.
Now, if you haven't subscribed to our channel yet,
please do it now and also hit that bell button so that you can help us grow this channel and
[B] keep on making great videos like this one.
Now, back to the SH.
So let me just quickly go through
it.
So here you have essentially three oscillators.
The first one being a square wave, [G] the second one
is a sawtooth, [C] and then you get a sub-oscillator, [A] which is again a square wave, which you can
basically alternate between the two octaves or both of them, [Em] right?
So let's take a [Am] sawtooth,
right?
[G] And basically this is very simple.
So on this side you have of course the envelope,
[Am]
[C] [G] [Am]
here you can decide the octave.
[C] [D] [Am] [G]
Very clean, it's still very thick, isn't it?
[C] You can also decide
to disable the envelope, so it's just a gate.
So open and close.
[Am] But let's go with this.
[C] [Am]
Oh, this is a monophonic synthesizer.
[D]
[A] [C] [F] [G]
So [A] let me show you.
You can select the pulse width
and you
[C] can select the range here.
You can as well select the type of modulation that you want
and [Ab] push on this slider [Db] to have it kick in.
[N]
It's pretty cool, isn't it?
[D] [B]
Let's try and [F] add some more sawtooth here.
And [Am] sub.
[G] [Am]
[Eb] [Am] [G]
Right [B] here you can decide the amount of pitch [C] bender.
[A]
[B] I usually like it just a whole tone.
[Am]
[D] [Am] [A] And then a very interesting [Am] function is the arpeggio, which goes like this.
And here [Gb] you decide, this is at the same time the LFO rate, [C] but also the arpeggiation rate.
[Am]
[F]
[G] [Em]
[F] [G]
[Em] I love this little guy.
You can also go up, this is just down.
[C] Check out.
Right?
Or you can go up, or up and down.
[A] Now check out, you can be really dramatic with this.
Check out.
[F] [G] [A]
[D] [C] [Bb]
[A] [G]
[F] [D]
If
[Bb] you are into high energy house music, this is the flint for you.
[G] [C]
[D]
It's also very good for
synth solo sounds, [D]
[F] [C]
[Dm] [A]
because you can add portamento to it.
[G]
[C] [G]
[D]
[G] [Am]
[N]
So it's a [E] very powerful little synth here.
[A]
[E] [A]
[Em] [A]
[C] [E] [Am]
[G]
[A]
[C]
[Em] [D]
[Am] [Em]
[G] [A]
[G] Such a small size, but such a huge sound.
That's the Roland SH-101.
This is still very popular
nowadays and a lot of people are looking for this very piece.
