Welcome [B] back.
I know who it is.
Jimmy [A] Shelton.
That's right.
The world [E] is abuzz this morning following the [C#] news that the Rolling Stones
have a brand new record on the way.
60 years after they released their debut single, the album breaks their 18 year drought of
original music and marks their first since the passing of drummer Charlie Watts.
The year was [D#] 1963.
Beatlemania was sweeping the world.
The Beach Boys [Fm] were [A#] surfing USA.
[D#m] Judy Garland was [G#] on TV.
Sean Connery was [C] Bond.
James [B] Bond.
And a little known [C] rock band by
the name of the [Am] Rolling Stones [C] was making its way into the charts.
[F]
[D] By 1964, [F] they were number one.
Their [Am] debut album taking [C] top spot in the [A] UK and Australia.
[Em]
[B] Now one of the [G] big criticisms of your [F#] act, Mick, is the fact that you only appeal [E] to
13 year olds.
Are we going to see any changes to make it more of a family show?
Oh no, has anyone asked me that before?
I don't think so.
I sing lots and lots of age
groups at our shows.
I mean mostly [D] 13 year olds, not 13 but teenagers come to watch us
and that applies to any pop act.
At the forefront of the British invasion, the Stones quickly became a hit in America.
How long has the long hair been fashionable in England?
About four years.
What are the
[A] barbers doing over there now?
Starving.
Starving?
[E] Oh no.
[D] [A] [E] Oh no.
But it [A] was the release of this [E] song that made them [A] the biggest band in the world.
[E] [A]
[Em] Hot on
the heels of [F] satisfaction success came plenty of hits.
[D] I wish you'd turn my head [F]
until my [C] darkness [A] goes.
And as their fan base grew,
[E] I'm coming Jack [B] Flash, it's a gas gas gas.
so did their reputation.
[F#] Financially [B] dissatisfied, sexually satisfied, [G#] philosophically tried.
The Stones lived on the wild side and despite being on top of the world, tragedy and scandal
was never far away.
It's [N] very easy to be controversial these days.
Is it hard to be controversial?
You can't put a foot anywhere without [B] being out of step.
[A] Troubles.
[E] Despite a few setbacks, some [A] pauses and [B] a couple of controversies, their popularity never [E] wavered.
[B]
The Stones continued to dominate all through the [E]
70s.
[C#m] [Cm]
80s.
[D] 90s.
[C] [D]
And [F] then the [C] noughties.
[D] Through the decades, the band [Am] has never stopped touring.
[C] Making [G] it clear there's no one [E] who could do it quite like them.
[B]
Pleased to meet you.
Welcome to the band.
[E]
In 2021, however, tragedy hit the group [B] once again.
Well, sad news overnight though [C#m] with the death of Rolling Stones, legend [F#] Charlie Watts.
Mourning the loss of their drummer and friend, the [B] band finished their world tour.
In fact, this is our [A#] first tour that we've ever done [F#] without.
Their [F#] future in the recording studio unclear without Charlie.
[N] We'll miss Charlie so much on the [E] stage and off the stage.
But here we are in [B] 2023, 60 [C#m] years down the track, and the Stones have decided they aren't done yet.
[A] [E]
Their
[B] new album, Hackney Diamonds, is on the way [E] and it's set to be magic.
We went into the studio in December and we cut 23 tracks very quickly and finished them off in January and mixed them in February.
[B] Yeah, it's a terrific clip there.
[E] I love the Stones so much.
The Stones' brand new album, Hackney [B] Diamonds, will be released October 20.
So get your mic on, people.
