Balcony TV!
[Gm] Welcome to this week's Balcony TV Exeter coming from Sandwich Jones on the Quay.
This week we are delighted to welcome onto our balcony the undercover hippie.
Hey guys.
Hey, how's it going?
Thanks for joining us this morning.
You're welcome.
What are you going to play?
This is a new track from our forthcoming album.
It's called One Heart One Life.
Go for it.
[Eb] [Gm] One heart, [Cm] one life, one planet, [Eb] two in habit.
Only [F] one chance left to hand [Gm] it to our children in one [Cm] piece.
For the [Eb] damage is too much, but [F] only if we all get to [Gm] have it now.
One [Cm] heart, one life, one [Eb] planet, two in habit.
[F] Only one chance left to [Gm] hand it to our children in [Cm] one piece.
For the [Eb] damage is too much, but [F] only if we all get to [Gm] have it now.
[C]
[F] [Cm]
[Eb] [F] [Gm] And though the corporate [C] can incorporate [Eb] anything above a lot of [F] money in their mental [Gm] state,
then we rely on [C] the state to regulate [Eb] all these people to [F] account for all the mess they [Gm] make.
But wait, there's one [Cm] problem with this proposition.
[Eb] Because whether leading or in [F] opposition, every single [Gm] politician is on a [C] mission to
take his own position, [Eb] use it for his own [F] ambition like he's on a commission.
[Gm] But it's the same old [Eb] story, labor or Tory.
But if you [F] want to, just don't ignore [Gm] me.
Until we [Cm] separate the business and [Eb] politics,
politicians are [F] going to listen to all the [Gm] lobbyists.
Until we [Cm] separate the money and the [Eb] media, if people stay [F] obedient and power gets greedy.
[Gm] Until we [Cm] separate the lies from the fact, [Eb] well, it's one step forward, [F] but it's two steps [Gm] back.
One [Cm] heart, one life, one [Eb] planet, two in habit.
[F] Only one chance left to [Gm] hand it to our children in [Cm] one piece.
For the [Eb] damage is too much, but [F] only if we all get to [Gm] have it now.
One [Cm] heart, one life, one [Eb] planet, two in habit.
[F] Only one chance left to [Gm] hand it to our children in [Cm] one piece.
For the [Eb] damage is too much, but [F] only if we all get to [Gm] have it now.
[Cm]
[F] [Gm] [Cm]
[F] [Gm] Well, I'm an addict with the [Cm] oil like the rest of them.
[Eb] Selfishness is the [G] better of the best of men.
The emperor's new clothes are full of holes.
May [F] I suggest we take a rest and get dressed again?
[Gm] Because this mess we're [F] in, oh, [Eb] it [F] isn't going anywhere [Gm] unless we're investing [Cm] in it.
Whoa, oh, [Eb] oh, the [F] future generation don't allow [Gm] the wickedness to win.
[Cm] Whoa, [Eb] oh, oh, we're [F] heading for disaster, but [Gm] we can't arrest the [Cm] trends.
Stand testament [Eb] to a future where [F] humanity is blessed again.
One [Cm] heart, one life, one [Eb] planet, two in habit.
[F] Only one chance left to [Gm] hand it to our children in [Cm] one piece.
For the [Eb] damage is too much, [F] but only if we all get to [Gm] have it now.
One [Cm] heart, one life, one [Eb] planet, two in habit.
[F] Only one chance left [Gm] to hand it to our children in [Cm] one piece.
For [Eb] the damage is too much, [F] but only if we all get [Gm] to have it now.
[Cm]
[F] [Gm] [Cm]
[Eb] [F] [C] Well, I'm a cynical, lyrical animal spinning no manner of flammable [F] mannerism.
Till I'm shackled to [Gm] manacle like that cannibal [Cm] Hannibal.
I'm in it to [Eb] win it, pushing the limit minute [F] to minute, but barely [D] beginning to get a grip on [Cm] the basics.
Yeah, let's face it, you're wasted, [F] man.
You know you never [Gm] even tasted it.
[Cm] And you don't even know my name.
[F] You don't even know my
[Gm] You don't [Cm] even know my [Eb] name.
[F] [Gm] You don't even know my game.
[Eb] [F] [Gm] You don't even know my [Eb] name.
[F] [Gm] You don't even [Cm] know my game.
[Gm] One heart, [Cm] one life, one planet, [Eb] two in habit.
Only [F] one chance left to hand it [Gm] to our children in one [Cm] piece.
For the damage [Eb] is too much, but only [F] if we all get to have it.
[Gm] One heart, [Cm] one life, one planet, [Eb] two in habit.
Only [F] one chance left to hand it [Gm] to our children in one [Cm] piece.
For the damage [Eb] is too much, but only if we all get to have it.
[E]
Yes!
Guys, what a great track.
Thank you.
I think Kate managed to keep still during that.
I'm sure she might have bounced up and down a bit.
Awesome.
So you're on tour at the moment.
We are indeed, yeah.
So how's it been?
Where have you been?
Really good.
This weekend we've been
Last night we were in Totnes, which was great.
Sold out show, loads of people.
[Ab] The night before we were Plymouth.
That was also really good.
And last weekend we were up north.
Edinburgh, Newcastle, Manchester, Kettering.
Okay, yeah.
Because it's a real festival vibe, isn't it?
You've got really Yeah.
Watching some of your videos, you really stonk up that.
You sort of carry that with you, don't you?
Definitely.
The band's kind of the result of me playing at festivals
and then gradually attracting musicians
and putting together a bigger and bigger band.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I was going to talk to you about that
because you were a drum and bass DJ for a while, right?
I was a drum and bass DJ
and then I was a drum and bass MC for quite a long time.
And that's where I started writing lots of lyrics
and writing songs, really.
Except they weren't songs, they were just lyrics
that I would spit over drum and bass parties.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Because that quick-fire thing, obviously,
it's really, really prominent in that track.
And also through, you know, The Monkey Suit, your album here.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, definitely.
But it's not just that.
I mean, you've got some really nice flavours in here.
There's a lot of folk.
There's obviously some really strong reggae tinges in there as well.
Yeah, I mean, I grew up listening to a lot of reggae when I was a kid.
But yeah, people ask me what influences I have
and it's everything, really.
It's everything you've ever listened to.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
It's going to touch you somewhere or other.
But yeah, Monkey Suit took three years to make, apparently.
It did take a very long time to make.
Largely just due to my perfectionism
and the fact that I was mixing and editing the whole thing.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
It's a really juicy album.
So tell us about the new one then.
What's happening with the new one?
The new album, hopefully the new album,
we're going to get someone else to record and mix and edit the album
so that it doesn't take quite as long.
OK.
We've just recorded one track recently in Cube Studios down in Cornwall
with Dean Forrest mixing and engineering.
And that's sounding really good.
So yeah, hopefully it's all going to happen.
Cool.
Same lineup?
Any strings or any sort of?
Yeah, no, same lineup.
You know, we might get in some session players
for a bit of horns and stuff like that.
So before we go then, do you want to introduce the band
so they don't feel too left out?
Absolutely.
This is Matty on the congas.
Hang on.
This is Zach on the bass.
This is Theo on the shaker [Ab] and bass and vocals.
On the shaker.
This is Dre on the keys.
Theo's normally the drummer.
Matty normally [Gb] plays congas.
Oh, OK.
While Dre plays [N] trombone.
And Zach normally plays triangle.
I'm normally just on handclaps, actually.
Multi, cross the board. Brilliant.
Well, I think by the time the show goes out,
your tour will have finished.
But I assume you're going to be gigging next year.
You're going to be doing all the festivals.
We're gigging all the time.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, yeah. Wicked.
So where can people find you then, [G] Billy?
If they check out the website, undercoverhippie.com
or if they like us on Facebook,
we'll like them in real life.
And yeah, they'll figure out where we're [Abm] playing eventually.
What a treat.
Thanks for coming and joining us [Gb] this morning.
You're welcome. Great stuff.
Yeah.
Undercover Hippie, guys.
Check them out.
Thanks for watching.
We'll see you next time on Balcony TV Exeter.
