[Em] _ records and had the same hero, guitar heroes and musical heroes.
B.B. King, [E] Muddy Waters, Muddy Guy, Albert King, Booker T and the MGs,
the Green Onions, _ Alan Wilkins, The Ventures, [Em] Elvis.
I mean, you know, you can, you know, we listened to everything. _
_ _ [A] _ _ _ _ [Em] Mainly, first love was like [G#m] blues, but it was also what [Am] was on the radio.
[Em] And then there was always country [A] and western [B] around too.
_ [G] _ [C#m] _ [Em] _ _ _ _
_ _ [Am] _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [B] _ _ [C] _ _ [B] _ _
_ [C] _ _ [B] _ _ _ _ [A] _
_ [A#] _ [Em] _ Anything that had guitar on it, I was always crazy [F#] about it.
But mainly it was the blues. _ _
[C#] _ _ _ _ [C#m] _ [B] _ _ _
[F#m] _ [B] _ _ [F#] _ _ _ [B] _ _
[F#] The car's been very good.
I don't know what I'd be doing without that.
He made up three songs the first [Bm] day.
_ _ I'll never forget that.
But I, you know, I_
So he didn't have to try.
It just came [F#] out.
It was really the first thing that [B] I've ever done that was [F#m] so [E] much fun,
that was, came so [B] _ _
natural or something, you know.
I mean, [F] it wasn't like schoolwork and it wasn't like, it was [D#] fun.
It wasn't a drag.
[G#m] _ _ _ [F#] _ _ _
_ _ _ [B] _ _ _ _ _
[F#] _ _ _ There was a set of drums in the house and there was a guitar.
And he got one of those little guitars, those little guitars with the cowboys on them.
_ And then _ we started really trying to play.
And I would put it down and leave and say, look, don't touch my guitar.
[F#m] _ _ _ _ _ _ _
[B] And I would leave and he would play the guitar just [F#m] as soon as I left.
And it sort of went on like that for a couple of [B] years.
And then as I started getting [F#] better and everything,
[C#] I would sort of move up and I'd get a better guitar and then he would kind of get to hand me down.
And then, you know, it just sort of went on like that.
Just like [Bm] normal _ [F#] brothers.
_ [B] _ [F#] _ _ _ _ _ _
[F#m] _ _ _ _ _ _ [F#] _
And one day he walked into my house in Austin, I had moved to Austin,
and he was like, you know, [B] serious.
_ I mean, I already knew he was serious, but I mean, he was really [C#m] serious.
[B] Yeah, I mean, I'd already decided I was not going to be a dishwasher no more.
And I was going to play guitar.
[G#m] You know, the [C#] parents got a little mad because I [B] moved out and they [F#] sort of took it all out on him.
Like, you can't go [G#m] nowhere.
You cannot play the guitar and you can't do nothing [C#m] except go to school.
[F#m] It didn't matter whether they liked it or not.
_ [B] [F#] Right on.
I was going to do [Bm] it anyway.
_ [A#] _ _ All right, guys, get ready.
We're about to do it.
_ _ _ _ _ [G] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [C] _ _ [G] From the beginning, we had been talking about doing an album together [A#] for, [C] I [Gm] don't know,
I mean, our relatives had been talking about it since we were little [G] kids.
_ _ _ [Gm] _
_ [F] _ [G] _ So anyway, it finally came up and we finally decided [A] to make it [G] happen.
And we called Niall.
And he was home.
And he was home.
_ _ _ One of the reasons that I wanted Niall is you've got to have,
I've got to have a producer that I respect musically or I can't work with.
_ Because I would just as soon [Gm] go do it myself a lot of times because [C] I think I know what I want to hear.
But [G] you want _ [Gm] an outside opinion that you trust.
And [Am] you want [G] somebody that you know is going to see it different, but that you respect. _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [C] _ _ _
_ [G] _ _ _ _ [G#] _ _ [A#] _
[G] _ _ _ [A#] _ One [G] more time.
_ You know, these guys are pretty [C] particular when it comes to their guitar sounds and what they want to hear.
So actually [D#] you can spend a fair amount of time [Em] just getting the right guitar sound.
I don't really know how to [G] explain this record.
At [Dm] first when we started working on it, I [G] thought that it would be [C] more _ blues on the record.
But in fact, there's only one real authentic blues.
And [G] it's not even authentic.
It's pretty wild. _
It's a _ sort of, I don't know man, it's a collection of weird styles.
[D] And [G] it comes out with Vaughn Brothers. _
_ _ [C] _ _ _ _ _ _
[G] _ _ _ _ [Gm] _ _ _ [A#] _
[G] _ _ _ _ _ Records I've made before, we were in a band and we had a certain sound that we were known for.
And that's what we did.
And we had a certain style that was ours.
But with [A#] this record, [G#] _
we didn't have to do any [D#m] of that.
We didn't even think about any of that.
We just wanted to do all [D#] the stuff that we've been wanting to do for years and years and couldn't for one reason or [C#] another.
Musically [D#] speaking.
[G#m] This was sort of, it's like the record company gave [D#] us a blank [G] canvas and some paint and said,
Okay, what are you going to do?
_ [Gm] _ [G] _ _
_ _ _ I've always heard stories about sibling rivalry and how other brothers hate each other and they're always fighting. _ _
But we haven't done that.
_ It's been great.
It's been fun.
_ It's something that we always wanted to do.
I don't know how other people get along, but I had a blast.
To me, I keep getting the feeling like we've probably gotten closer making this [Gm] record than we have been since [C] we were kids [G] at home.
And I [Gm] needed it. _ _
I can honestly say I needed it.
