[Bbm] Good morning everybody.
Twelve minutes past eight [Eb] o'clock.
I don't know about you, but I have been waiting for this day since the [B] day it was booked.
The Wiggles are here.
Good morning.
[Ab] Good morning.
Okay, I'm sorry.
This is slightly surreal for me.
I have two kids, and so on behalf of all parents, I thank you for giving me time to
make [Eb] dinner, watch the Wiggles kids, [G] or talk to my husband.
It's you guys that have gotten us through this.
Now is this [B] correct?
Because this is what I've heard.
That you guys are [Gm] the highest [Eb] grossing musical act to come out of Australia of all time.
Like we're talking about [D] ACDC or Olivia Newton-John.
No, you guys.
No.
I don't know.
Well then [E] it's true.
I think ACDC.
No, I think it's you.
Really?
They're the loudest for sure.
They're the loudest.
Your audience might be a little louder than theirs.
I haven't even introduced everybody.
We have Murray Cook, we have Jeff Fatt, Anthony [N] Field, and Greg Page of the Wiggles.
The original four.
Now did this start, did it have something to do, you guys met in university?
Yeah.
Oh, I'm sorry.
We certainly did.
In Sydney we were starting to become early childhood teachers, myself, Murray, and Greg.
We became early childhood teachers and during university we'd get together in our music
class and we'd do theater in education, music in education, and we formed this group to
just go around for birthday parties when we weren't teaching in the holidays.
And it sort of just caught on.
And Jeff, I wrangled Jeff in, he was in a rock band with me at the time, and Jeff said
to me, like I'll come over and help you with the album, how long's it gonna take?
I said, oh, I don't know, two hours?
20 years.
He delayed my house renovations.
Probably made the house a little bigger too.
So that's how it all starts.
But this wasn't an overnight success necessarily, was it guys?
No, it wasn't.
We started really small and it just gradually grew.
We toured a lot in Australia, just traveling around.
We played in little tiny towns all around Australia.
And it just grew and grew and grew.
And then eventually we decided to come to North America and try our fortune here and
it's done really well.
Well if I live to be 120, I think I'll always remember the lyrics to Fruit Salad, Yummy
Yummy, The Big Red Car.
Do you write that as a group?
Yeah, a lot of the songs we write together, we have a couple of other people that write
with us as well.
Anthony's brother John is a fantastic songwriter and he's written a lot of songs for The Wiggles.
But yeah, we usually get in the studio, we have ideas, we toss them around and we write
the songs together and that's how we come up with songs like Fruit Salad.
Well sometimes [D] songs, singers around, sometimes they don't go through.
Like I came up with the guys with [E] the song, I am the greatest, my name's Anthony.
No, strangely.
They said they're not going to use it.
[Bbm] We put it in a stock box.
You said the second greatest.
Yeah, [F] my reason for it.
Now there's been some bumps in the road I guess along the way.
Greg, [N] you were gone for a while.
You were dealing with a health issue which was quite mysterious for you, wasn't it?
Oh yeah, absolutely.
I've been suffering symptoms for about 12 years [Gb] really and it got worse and worse progressively
throughout my time with the group and finally I got really sick in 2006 and I had to leave
not knowing what was wrong with me.
Then I got diagnosed, dealt [Fm] with that and [G] so I was out of the group for five years and
this year the guys asked me if I could come back and [B] I was really glad to be able to come
back because when I did my last show in 2006, I didn't know that that was going to be my
last show with the [Gb] group so I guess I never had any closure.
So now coming back and this is now the final year of the original Wiggles, it kind of just
rounds out my time with the group and I guess for me being back this year with Murray and
Jeff as well, they've now decided to retire at the end of this year too.
How did you guys make that decision, Murray?
How did you know it [B] was time?
It was kind of a
Everyone made the decision separately in a way.
It really was precipitated [D] by Jeff I guess.
Yeah, yeah.
She's actually missed out on my very first tour ever.
[Gm] I missed out on Canada and the US last year because I had to have a pacemaker inserted
which I have now and I'm feeling much better for it.
But that played upon my decision to resign from being an official Wiggle.
Right.
Well, 20 years is a long time to do just about anything, you know, [N] straight and goodness
knows it seems like you've achieved everything that you could possibly have dreamed of achieving.
I mean, we [C] still love doing it.
It's great fun.
The shows are wonderful.
We love the audience.
It's really just the touring side of it, being away from home so much.
We've got quite a few, three of us have children and just being away from home so much is really
quite difficult and I've missed
My children are almost grown but I've missed out on so much so I just felt while they still
are children I want to spend [G] a bit more time with them.
Right, of [G] course.
Anthony, here's what I've noticed with you.
From
because I've been watching, I think almost [Eb] since you guys
I guess I was watching your early stuff and then watching it [B] through.
You've transformed a bit.
[D]
What have you done?
It [E] seems like you are just in phenomenal shape.
[N] Well, you know what happened?
We used to sing about fruit salad yummy yummy and drink some water and while we were singing
about it I was backstage hoeing into the pizzas and Kentucky Fried Chicken.
[G] Yeah, [Eb] I know about that.
To tell you the truth, I just didn't look after myself and I was drinking a lot of the
soda waters and things.
I just didn't look after myself and I became a bit of a physical wreck and an emotional
wreck and I couldn't even do the shows very well for years.
I'd be backstage, my back was hurting and everything.
I turned my life around and I got very, very healthy and that's one of the reasons [N] I want
to keep going is I just finally got to feeling really good about it.
So you will be remaining with the new.
Absolutely.
I've got such a healthier lifestyle now.
I'm eating good food and I'm really loving life.
I've got to tell you I'm going to miss these guys out on the road every day next year and
for the rest of the time.
Like all the parents, like all the children, everybody's going to miss seeing Greg, Jeff and Murray.
But you know, things go on.
I'm going to try and keep it going for the guys and remember the great things they've built up.
Well, we should mention that we have some people limbering up over in the corner with Captain Feathersword.
Never mind.
So these are the Wiggles in training.
They are.
And if you notice, the yellow Wiggle is now a woman.
Right.
Which is fantastic.
That's Emma.
Lockie's the purple Wiggle and Simon's the big Wiggle.
Murray and Simon are the same size shirt and that's what's the main Wiggle.
So there you go.
You made financial sense.
We have to wrap up but before we do, I just want to ask you real quick.
Did you guys see the 30 Rock episode with the Waggles?
Yes, we saw it.
Right, and Jenna was like the Yoko breaking up the group.
And there was another movie that came out, Life as We Know It.
And in that movie, the parents were so annoyed by watching us all the time, they wanted to kill us.
[Eb] Well, I feel quite the opposite.
[Bbm] You have saved me a number of [Gb] times.
We're going to take a break.
When we come back, [D] a performance from the one [B] and only Wiggles.
We'll be right [D] back.
Can we do it together?

_ _ Now there's been some bumps in the road I guess along the way.
So now coming back and this is now the final year of the original Wiggles, _ it kind of just
rounds out my time with the group and I guess for me being back this year with Murray and
Jeff as well, they've now decided to retire at the end of this year too.
How did you guys make that decision, Murray?
How did you know it [B] was time?
It was kind of a_
Everyone made the decision separately in a way. _
It really was precipitated [D] by Jeff I guess.
Yeah, yeah.
_ _ She's actually missed out on my very first tour ever.
_ I mean, we [C] still love doing it.
It's great fun.
The shows are wonderful.
We love the audience.
It's really just the touring side of it, being away from home so much.
We've _ got quite a few, three of us have children and just being away from home so much is really
quite difficult and I've missed_
My children are almost grown but I've missed out on so much so I just felt while they still
are children I want to spend [G] a bit more time with them.
Right, of [G] course.
Anthony, here's what I've noticed with you.
From_
because I've been watching, I think almost [Eb] since you guys_
I guess I was watching your early stuff and then watching it [B] through.
You've transformed a bit.
[D] _
What have you done?
It [E] seems like you are just in phenomenal shape.
[N] Well, you know what happened?
We used to sing about fruit salad yummy yummy and drink some water and while we were singing
about it I was backstage hoeing into the pizzas and _ Kentucky Fried Chicken. _ _
_ [G] Yeah, [Eb] I know about that.
To tell you the truth, I just didn't look after myself and I was drinking a lot of the
soda waters and things.
I just didn't look after myself and I became a bit of a physical wreck and an emotional
wreck and I couldn't even do the shows very well for _ years.
I'm eating good food and _ I'm really loving life.
I've got to tell you I'm going to miss these guys out on the road every day next year and
for the rest of the time.
Like all the parents, like all the children, everybody's going to miss seeing Greg, Jeff and Murray.
But you know, _ things go on.
I'm going to try and keep it going for the guys and remember the great things they've built up.
Well, we should mention that we have some people limbering up over in the corner with Captain Feathersword. _
_ Never mind.
So these are the Wiggles in training.
They are.
And if you notice, the yellow Wiggle is now a woman.
Right.
Which is fantastic.
That's Emma.
Lockie's the purple Wiggle and Simon's the big _ Wiggle.
_ Murray and Simon are the same size shirt and that's what's the main Wiggle.
So there you go.
You made financial sense. _
_ _ [Eb] Well, I feel quite the opposite.
[Bbm] You have saved me a number of [Gb] times.
We're going to take a break.
When we come back, [D] a performance from the one [B] and only Wiggles.
We'll be right [D] back.
Can we do it together? _
[Bm] _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [B] _ _ [N] _
