What's up, welcome back to the channel.
My name is Savita and today we're [C] gonna learn about chords.
So Unison Audio hooked me up with their mini chord pack and within this pack they have things like
basic chords, more extended chords, and chord progressions.
And as I was looking through the
chord progressions I noticed that they have these roman numerals and I realized I haven't told you
guys about this yet.
Because once you learn about roman numerals it kind of changes the way you
think about chords, chord progressions, and just harmony in general.
Let's go over to the piano so
I can explain this better.
So the reason roman numerals are so effective is because they kind
of work as the general outline for all chord progressions.
So let's use C major as an example
to keep everything really simple.
So in every major scale there are seven [Eb] notes and [C]
respectively
there are seven chords.
[Dm] [F] [Am] [B]
[C] And in roman numerals these seven chords are laid out like this.
[Em] [G]
[Am] [B] So C major [C] is going to be one because we're in the key of C and C is the first note in the scale.
And then from C we're pretty much just [Dm] ascending.
So [Em] two, three, [Am] four, five, [B] six, seven.
Now if you
look closely some of the roman numerals are uppercase and lowercase and that's very important.
So the uppercase means that the chord is major and the lowercase means that the chord is minor.
So
for example we start with an F which is the fourth of a scale [Am] then we go up a third and a fifth we
end up with a major chord and that's why it's uppercase.
Then if we start with the sixth which
is an A and then we go up a third and a fifth we end up with a minor chord and that's why it's
lowercase.
For minor scales you have the same amount of major and minor chords they're just
arranged differently.
So let's just go to A minor.
So in minor chords the first is minor [B] then the
second one is diminished [C] then the third one is major [Dm] then the fourth one is minor [Em] the fifth one
is minor [F] sixth one is major and [G] the seventh one is major.
So let's make a quick chord progression
in the key of C major.
So we'll [C] do C major [F] then F major [Am] then A minor [G] then G major.
[C] So now we're
going to change this chord progression into roman numerals.
So C is going to be one [F] then it's going to be
four [A] then six [G] then five [Eb] and now one four six five is going to be our chord progression instead.
So
now this is really cool because now we can go to any other key and as long as we remember one four
six five we know exactly what's in play.
So I can just pick a note at random which is going to be E
F major one then we go [Ab] four four [Eb] six and [Cm] then five.
[Bb] So now we already have a chord [Eb] progression
[Ab] and [C] [Bb] once you start listening to songs you're going to pick up on these chord progressions a lot easier
and it should help you make music a lot quicker.
If you're a beginner having a chord pack like this
is really helpful because it can teach you the name of the chords.
So for example this is a
G9 [Dm] suspended four this [C] is a C major nine and you know this just really helps you get familiar with
how certain chords sound.
But even if you're advanced just having chord progressions laid out
for you can give you a lot of inspiration at the beginning.
[Em] [Am]
[Dm] [B] Actually I really like this one.
Okay let's put this on serum [Em] first.
Okay so we cut it like this.
Just give me a second.
Almost done.
Ah [Am] this is gonna sound good I promise.
Okay I want to make it a bit higher.
[Abm] Maybe like here.
[Dbm] [A]
[Abm]
Okay so now we're kind of making the chord progression our own.
So I'm kind of hearing
little [B] variations in melody now like [A] that.
[Abm]
[Gb] [Gbm] [Eb]
[Abm] [F] [Em] [D] [Db] [Abm] Like that.
[Dbm]
Let's [Abm] just let this loop.

[Eb] [Abm] I don't know.
[Dbm] [A]
[E] It's like [A] future bass chords but with like a [Abm] pop R&B
kind of drums.
I don't know what's happening right now.
That should be enough drums.
We're just gonna
split it by channel.
[Dbm] [Abm] This is too busy right now but we have like all the ingredients to get a good
drum arrangement going.
Let's get a bass line though.
This is why learning roman numerals is

So right now I'm in the key of C sharp minor and since they already gave me these roman
numerals, every single one of those is kind of telling me what note to play for the bass line.
So
it's gonna go this this.
Yeah and then that's it.
It's gonna be super easy now.

[Abm] Ah yeah we need uh [Dbm] maybe a pad.

That drop kind of nice.
We need another
